Holyfield cheating accusations by Bobby Czyz

no doubt about it, fighters, champions rather are delusional, all of them you have to be. And the letdown for a Foreman, a Tyson, a Holyfield is going to create some excuses.

its the truth, they have to make themselves believe that next time it would be different, that it wasnt fair this time...that belief/delusion/insanity is what make these nutjobs get in there in the first place

so im generally more forgiving than most about excuses

they were discussing online forums regarding Evan's death,Seano's post was shown which said he thought it was a suicide which was the early talk but seems to have settled on accidental death.

Wow.
interesting.

Tyson incidentally, in many ways was just as coddled and spoiled as any white hope after the boxing world got their hands on him and it ruined what could have been a great career.

Tyson's an interesting case because as you pointed out the dude won't shut up about growing up in the hood, but he was in upstate NY, in a big white house having his every need tended to by age 14.

and while we're on excuses, Tysons after the first Holyfield fight were gems, he claims he didn't remember anything past the what? Fifth round? because he was getting butted and played dumb the entire showtime postfight interview, i don't think anyone but himself believed that one. Ridiculous.

btw seano, were you aware that one of your posts was in an evan tanner docu? I just saw it an hour ago.

I've heard that. Haven't seen it, if anyone could link me to it, I'd be interested in seeing it.

it's in the hour long one not the one that's still being worked on. It's on youtube.

Holyfield did have a habit of leading with his head but this is pretty hard to believe.

Who would ever have guessed that getting punched in the eyes for a living would effect your eyesight.

What test do the police use for Tobasco sauce anyway?

They call in a specialist I hear

mmmmm... Tabasco.

Bobby Czyz should be happy he even got a fight with Holyfield. Holyfield is a legend and Czyz on his best day couldn't beat Holyfield or get anywhere close.

Just watch the entire fight some points:

- except for Foreman, the announcers were horrible. The entire first round was the HBO team complaining that this was going to be a washout and that it was going to be over quickly. Well, if that is how you feel, why did HBO ok the fight?

- yes, it was interesting watching Holyfield fight a smaller guy, but as Foreman stated, Holyfield is a strong fighter, but does NOT have much power in his punches, especially when moving forward. Foreman also stated that since all of his strength is in his upper body, rather than his legs, Holyfield is easy to push around in the ring.

- I was amazed that Evander, one of the most conditioned fighters in history, was exhausted in round four. I assume it was because he threw so many more punches per round than he had ever done before. Way too anxious to KO Czyz.

- merchant vs. Lederman arguing about the standing 8 count was amusing.

- the final round was clearly Czyz's best round of the fight and the tide was turning due to the difference in how tired the fighters were getting. (Not stating Czyz was a lock to win ) But, as his trainer stated "His eyes are burning, I don't want him hurt." Please tell me that guy still works with top notch fighters. Gotta respect a guy like that.

- oh, when after Czyz and his corner started complaining about his eyes, his corner CLEARLY asked the ref to check Holyfield's gloves. I can't believe the HBO guys didn't start the next round discussing that. They completly ignored that tid-bit. When there was disruption in the corner at the start of the next round, they scoffed it off by talking about the Fan Man landing back during Holyfield Bowe I.

Lots of drama

Interesting.

I want to watch it now.

Hmm, I want to watch it now because it sounds interesting.

I did watch it and was struck by how much perceptions/reality are different. I remembered Holyfield just knocking Cyzz around from pillar to post, it wasn't that bad but he did give him a beating. I didn't remember Cyzz landing as many punches as he did though, he was countering well but just didn't have the power to hurt Holyfield. I remember this fight, the gloves were checked and nothing suspicious was found if reports are to be believed. Holyfield looked like shit in this fight, it's what made Tyson think his fight would be a walkover, who could blame him? Holyfield claimed that he'd never been in with a smaller guy and he got carried away teeing him off, punched himself out. There was a lot of pressure on Holyfield who was obviously rusty, you could hear his cornermen exhorting him to get cyzz out of there because they knew the Tyson fight was on the line and in no way wanted to fuck that up. Still it's interesting to see Holyfield exhausted, standing up in the corner which is unusual for anyone in boxing. He was drained from beating on Cyzz, Cyzz was never a serious threat in that fight.

I liked Czyz as a boxing commentator....too bad he got canned.

This is a pretty underwhelming fight by Holyfield, by HBO and its commentators, the ref.

However, I felt Larry, Jim and George covered the "burning eyes" as best they could. They acknowledged Czyz's complaint, said the ref checked Holyfield's gloves and body but found nothing, covered that the use of liniment is absolutely illegal. What else were they supposed to do?

The burning eye thing is interesting, but the Tabasco sauce/police evidence tested positive but could not be proved? What does that mean? Are the police even involved in situations like this? Plus the smell of Tabasco is so strong there is no way you would need a police investigation to determine it was on Holyfield's gloves. The smell would be on the gloves, the ref and both fighters.

Also, Czyz saying that Holyfield told him years later he was going to quit after one more round sounds like bullshit. Maybe Holyfield said that, but it was probably just his way of paying Czyz a professional courtesy "Oh yeah man, you were my toughest fight." He was a part of the media after all.
