If we're being honest it's a great accomplishment that she ever became champion at the age of 34, I say this as a Rousey fan. Holm doesn't have the luxury of sitting out for a year like Rousey or emigrating to Canada after getting destroyed like Tate, if she doesn't stay active it's very likely that family time catches up a lot quicker. Holm would be the GOAT if she started her career in MMA, the UFC hasn't or won't see another athlete of Holms caliber for a LONG time.

    Alas, Rousey bless.

I don't know why she was punching and kicking air all the time with reach and weight advantage. I think its a mental thing after last loss. If she would just let her hands go...

The fact that Holly spent so many years in pro boxing is what makes her good.

There was 0 dollars in WMMA until Ronda. Ronda made Holly rich.

Too old to develop an adequate ground game.

She was outclassed and old. Strikers fall apart a lot earlier than other specialists. Ask Cro Cop, Liddell, and even Junior.

I agree, but the fact that she seems hesitant to unleash her boxing is holding her back.

I agree she seemed hesitant. She also never used her reach and timed that right hand. She did not fight to her full potential.

I think she is unleashing it as much as she can. Her style of boxing and what she's good at has been exposed though. Nobody is interested in charging at her like a raging bull since Ronda tried it.

I kinda think it's because she's a rote striker. It seems like she's the kind of fighter who depends heavily on the combinations she's drilled in camp to the point where it's hard for her to make adjustments in the fight. Whereas Shevchenko is an organic fighter who knew which shots to throw and when.

I think the other issue is that Holm was forced to lead and she's more comfortable as a counter striker. She was also fighting another southpaw so her usual lead leg kicks + left cross (arguably her best striking tools) were harder to land because of the angle.

If we're comparing: Ronda is rolling downhill like an obese snowball and from the looks of things, may not fight again. Post USADA it's unclear if she can get back in shape.

Win or lose, Holm continues to show up. That's the important thing. And she isn't really THAT old. If she gets her head screwed on right and re-discovers her ill intentions (a la the Ronda knockout) in the cage and improves a few things, there's hope. And there are plenty of girls she beats right now.

Holm is fine. Yes I know she lost 2 in a row but nothing in either fight made me think she couldn't win a rematch.

Are we sure about this? Strikers fall apart earlier than grapplers?
    Even more, a lot earlier?

She literally fights like this 100% of the time besides the Ronda fight. And by literally, I mean she literally punches the air, connecting on less than half her strikes.

When forced to be the aggressor, she has:

    1) No skill in distance gauging
    2) No skill in timing
    3) Doesn't fully commit to her strikes (and this is connected to point 1, think of when you see a fighter throw a roundhouse, but midway through, they realize they are out of position, so you seem them sort of "half heartedly" finish out the motion. Well with her, the MAJORITY of her strikes are out of position when she's not the one backing up, which is why we see the strikes thrown as if not fully committed).

She's just not as good when leading. She's better when she's being chased, like in the Ronda fight. So basically, those of you saying she's getting old, or somehow didn't mentally have it, that's not true. She was always like this.
