Hollow Knight is really REALLY good

I did grow weary of the map and back tracking but I always bought the map off the dude so it was whatever after a while.

Very late to the party but I grabbed this on switch and I LOVE it. What a blast. Don't usually care much about music in a game but it's really well done in this. Not very far yet but I have been chipping away at it while my son does his Kindergarten class remotely. I haven't played a platformer/2-d game like this in a very long time so I wasn't expected to get into it, but I think my love of Dark Souls helps.

Just started playing it for the first time. Enjoying it but not sure if its overly simple nature is enough to keep me engaged for the entire game.

Haven't played the expansions but the base shovel knight was incredible. Loved that game and should probably replay it soon
Hollow Knight not Shovel. You may like this game too if you haven't checked it out.

Holy fuck. I'm out of it.. yeah, I've played both. Sketched the hell out and confused them.... but Hollow Knight is fucking awesome. I still need to finish it though.

I'm looking forward to Silksong.

Someone confused the two in the last Hollow Knight thread as well. Its understandable.

got my ass kicked at the 3 mantis boss fight and hated having to keep walking back so I gave up.. I'll pick it up again soon and try again

They were my first big hurdle, and yeah, backtracking can be a bitch. However, don't be shy to just run past everything once you've unlocked that area. I used to take my time and deal with all the enemies, before heading down. Just blitz past them. You can get back to those guys in like a minute if you just ignore everything.

Their patterns are pretty simple too, you just have to be patient. They have pretty obvious tells and the only thing that fucked me up, was overthinking it. It's pretty much spear thrust forward, spear thrust downward, and the projectiles. When it gets to two guys, it's the same deal only a little faster, and when they set up for their projectile attacks, just watch their positioning. You can tell if they're going low or high, and when both of them start throwing shit at the same time, just stand in the middle and jump and duck when you have to.

I thought that fight was one of the hardest when I first encountered them, but it's deceivingly easy.

I tend to kill everything and hoard money which adds to the stress of dying, which I kind of like sometimes but probably doesn't help here.

I know if I just did it a few times in a row, got used to the pattern, then tried the next day I'd probably get it. That's usually how it works with tough spots in these games I find.

I'd have had more patience to die a dozen times if I didn't have to walk back from the slightly too far station but definitely I'll try them again. The game is too good to not finish.

That's good info though, thanks. I'll read it again and probably watch a video before I try.. I'll be rusty when I pick it back up. It's been a bit.

Interesting, haven't played it in a couple days but will get to it tonight. Overly difficult is a turn off to me so we'll see

The bosses can be tough but manageable, but some of the plaforming gets really crazy.

I think it's biggest flaw, if it has one, is that it can get a bit confusing near the halfway point, because the zones really open up and you end up running around in circles trying to figure out the right path you're supposed to be on, and the fast travel areas get more and more spread out and hard to reach, so you end up doing a lot backtracking. With the enemies respawning all the time, it can get really tedious and frustrating when you're lost.

The bosses don't really get bad until your doing side quest stuff or the end game DLC which is literally a whole different world where you just do didn't types of boss fights. I was talking about it getting interesting as in you get a lot of abilities and different pins which really change up your build.

I eventually felt this game was too difficult for me and said fuck it, downloaded mods that made you invincible so that I could continue exploring and confirmed I would have never been able to get through certain areas without cheating. Still a very cool game though. I love the look and feel plus the music fits perfect.

I love challenging 2d adventure games. I'm glad this thread is still alive with new players.

At 107% completion. Finished the White Palace, Completed the hunters journal.
Trying to beat Nightmare Grimm but i'm getting annihilated, even with cheese strats i can only last about 30 seconds such a brutal fght.

Haven't attempted the Pantheons yet. i think this is all i have left to do for 112%

Finally beat that asshole Grimm. When I first started fighting him didn't think I'd have a chance but such a great fight once you get used to the patterns feels like a dance.

Now onto the pantheons.
