Except Tony is a commonly recognized nickname for Anthony and Ferguson is his stepfather's last name while Padilla is just his mom's last name so in a way his name really is Tony Ferguson. In Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking cultures it's common to have two last names, one from each parent, but to use only one of them.Next fact that will blow your mind that Tony's real name isn't even 'Tony Ferguson'

Exactly my pointTbf, it probably got into America via the Haitian immigration of the 19 century and the french colonization of the south so thats why is associated with African Americans over there, specially in Louisiana.
