Rumored High possibility a grappling match will take place between Khabib and GSP in EFC

Your source has less than a 1,000 followers on Twitter and isn't followed by any MMA journalists/reporters that I can see. Probably just wishful thinking. Or an attempt to stir up some interest.

Not gonna happen, both would need to ask uncle Dana for permission

This would be awesome, as their fight likely won't happen. I think evenly contested. GSP is, or was, a very strong WW wrestler. Also good at getting up from the bottom, like vs Kos, Condit, Hendricks, among others. I don't think Khabib will be able to lock his legs with ease, the Khabib special.

If Khabib pulls this match up off it will be monumental, akin to BJ Penn fighting Gomi in his own organisation except it's an even bigger feat now given how much bigger the UFC is now.

I don’t see the upside for GSP in this scenario. Is Khabib going to pay him $10M? He’s 40 years old now. Still in great shape. But GSP’s advantage in an mma fight would be his ability to keep the fight standing. This would tell us nothing about who wins an mma fight.

But let me guess..Khabib would actually take this match at 170. When he refused it in mma.

I just don’t see the upside for GSP. If he wins people will discount it for any number of reasons. If he loses, he’s shit and always was. That’s a no win situation.

Nice. Thanks for that. That's a bit different than whats being sold in the OP. Sounds like he's just answering a hypothetical question and assuming GSP would do it.

“I think that nothing prevents this fight from being held in Miami. Khabib is always in shape. I follow Saint-Pierre on Instagram and I see that he is always in shape, training. Khabib is such a sports fan that he keeps himself in shape all the time. Nothing prevents a fight between them. It would be interesting. It would be possible to organize this fight at one of the EFC tournaments in the USA,"

I know GSP is still under contract and has had to turn down boxing offers because of that.

This post smells of fear.

You think if GSP won it will be "discounted" ?? Lol, people would NEVER shut up about how Khabib was subbed by 42 yr old GoatSP and how he was exposed etc...

preemptive damage control on full display by GSP fans

GSP has been on the gym this whole time and is in terrific shape.

It would be fun to see. GSP has been regarded as a very very strong guy by guys like Chael who trained with him.

Damn, 40 years old and with those shoulders and forearms... Looking almost suspicious.

Or maybe it smells of intelligence? It’s only the lowbrows that ever quote me with their bullshit. Please explain to me the upside of this for GSP. Come on mouth, prove to us how intelligent you are.

I'd love to see it, also would love to see how red Dana would be, he would be like a ripe tomato

This will be interesting. Khabib without ground and pound….

I would watch. Shit, I would pay to watch

You mean to say winning a grappling bout against the best grappler in MMA history adds nothing to GSP's legacy? You're insane...

If there's someone whose win will be "discounted" it would be Khabib, they will say he beat rusty old man GSP.

People like you are already preparing the excuses

C'mon, gsp gets smoked in pure grappling. He isn't on the same level in pure grappling. While he became a wonderful grappler over the course of his career he isn't on that level.
If it were an mma competition the grappling would be interesting. George's needs to be able to mix everything in order to be successful with such a high level guy like khabib.

In a submission grappling context GSP is either as good or better than Khabib. He regularly trains with dudes like Gordon Ryan as well and is coached by Firas and Danaher.

The real problem is that GSP is pretty old for combat, where Khabib is relatively young.

This match would have been sweet 5-8 years ago.

Sorry but there's tons of upside for GSP. The only fight he was willing to come back for was Khabib. He holds Khabib in very high regard and respects Khabib's skills. GSP is the kind of athlete who always wants to challenge himself. That's why he's still always in the gym training. He considers Khabib to be at the highest level, and he wants to see how he would do against Khabib. He loves the challenge. He would love to see if he can do what nobody else could and actually beat Khabib.

There's always people trying to discredit everything that ever happens all the time. If you say things shouldn't happen because those people will not accept it, then why should anything ever happen at all? Look at the Khabib vs Gaethje fight - so many people picked Gaethje, and then turned around and talked all kinds of shit about Gaethje after, like they hadn't been hyping him up until the fight started.

Stop letting those people tell you what should or should not happen. Let's enjoy this event and let the athletes worry about the upside they see in it, yeah?

This is why it's so interesting to me. Khabib never looked like he had trouble grappling in MMA, and GSP was by far the best MMA grappler of his era. Who wins? Who knows? Let's see it.
