I really liked his performance against Woodley, this Rory could very well beat Hendricks

For some reason, I think Rory matches up very well with Hendricks stylistically. The way he moves, his TDD, and his technical striking work in his favor. He also seems more dedicated as far as not taking time off and fattening up like Hendricks does it between fights. I think he could beat Johny by UD with the right focus and game plan.

Rory is a better fighter than Robbie, he'd beat him in the rematch.

He's also one of the most underrated guys on here I agree. Wins over top-10 guys in Ellenberger, Diaz, Woodley, Penn, and Maia.

And his only losses are to top-5 WW in close fights, if you don't think the Lawler fight is close go back and actually watch it. It's a win for Robbie but 29-28 and other than Hendricks it's his toughest fight in his UFC return so far.

Condit was also down two rounds and came back with a fury to win, but it shows Rory has the tools to beat him.

He's only getting better, before this fight I saw a thread stating "When did you stop believing the Rory hype" and I found it really stupid seeing as he'll probably be champion one day.

I also find it hilarious how much he irks people for whatever reason so I hope Ares keeps on winning, which from what I've seen he probably will.

Huh?

What is rory better than robbie at? Their grappling is a wash (macdonald's offensive wrestling is better, but lawler has the better defense). Robbie is the better striker, and both of them are pretty even in stamina/endurance.

Was wondering because this seemed kind of obvious:

Thought maybe you were from Quebec.

you need to try harder.. not bad trolling I must admit but I've seen much better..

Rory had much much better offensive grappling and better defensive grappling. Robbie can't do anything off his back when he gets taken down, only attempt to stand up. And Rory almost never gets taken down as well as has subs off his back, sweeps, etc.

His grappling is much better.

Striking Robbie has the power advantage but they aren't leagues apart, Rory owns every other fighter he's ever fought on the feet, his defense is good, Robbie is better but not by much.

And And as you said stamina is even.

So seeing as Rory had much better submission skills, takedowns, and overall grappling I'd say he's the overall better fighter even though Lawler has the slight striking advantage.

They're very close, but I think Rory would gameplan better and win the rematch

Rory was getting hurt in the Robbie fight, so acting like he "barely lost" a split decision is unfair. He was beaten.

I did not say that. But I say now that Rory with better preparation (or camp?) for the revenge-fight against Robbie would win . Even if it happens this year.

Well yeah.. I am always amused by the amount of Sherdog rage after his fights.. Guy is picking apart crowd's favorites and people just don't like it, I understand that :)

How is that trolling? I like speaking french. :icon_conf

Lawler's defensive grappling is predicated on keeping the fight on the feet because he has an advantage in striking vs virtually anyone he faces. His tdd is better than macdonald's, and like you said, when he does get taken down he doesn't waste time trying to go for submissions because he knows he has a better chance of ending the fight with his strikes. I'd say the disparity between their grappling is no bigger than the disparity between their striking.

Rory has been beaten down badly, twice. Last night was totally unimpressive as well. Sorry to burst your bubble.

No need to say sorry.. I am really happy with his performance, as you see by my post.

Though, you look like someone whose bubble has been compromised ;D

Rory is a talented fighter but I can't think of anyone less entertaining. Yet another boring decision last night, his 5th straight over the last 2+ years. He should wait in line, behind Robbie Lawler, for a title shot.

Considering how young he is, i think that he will have an amazing career.

Rory took the Lawler fight when he should have pulled out from injuries. Still took Lawler to a split decision. Much of Lawler's success was after an early stand up in round 3. Rory weathered the storm and still finished the fight in superior and dominant position. Rory could have won that fight with another 2 rounds. Easy. A rematch he will win with the right adjustments and two more rounds. Bring it on. Get rid of Brown.
