"He's on fire" "In the zone"

the one true explains "The Zone" (vid gets a little strange at 1:30 lol).

anybody who plays basketball at any level lives for The Zone. the only one who would deny this, is the one who has never been so fortunate as to enter The Zone, and become privy to its power. you cannot find The Zone by actively seeking it, rather The Zone finds you. it comes without warning, without warrant, of its own volition. it's the single greatest feeling a man can experience in this life, greater than sex, greater than drugs, greater than plunder and conquest, greater than the discovery of new ideas or treasure, greater still than the birth of your first-born child.

the certainty that when the ball gets in my hands - my hands... not anybody else's, for The Zone has chosen me - not only am i shooting the ball without hesitation, without fear, without a second-thought ... but it's as good as in before the release, as if it has been ordained by a higher power, be it 4 or 40 feet away, be it square or off-balance. a basket. a bucket. a forgone conclusion. your teammates will ooh and ahh, eventually you'll win over even your staunchest opponents, who will have no choice but to concede to The Zone's presence... but The Zone is a fleeting moment, a fickle beast, a bittersweet gift, for the instant you become aware of your own zone, is the instant The Zone leaves you. not gradually nor gently, but rather quite roughly, quite abruptly, on a dime - an instant regression, a deep regret over the tantalizing paradox - simply becoming aware, aware of your own zone.

wow what a writeup, this is SPOT on.

Compare this to faust waxing philosophically about Tony Robbins' gigantism a few posts up, my god what a night and day difference in analysis.

lol pretty much every fundamental aspect of "the zone" phenomenon I articulated was just reinforced by Kooby's telling of his limited experience with "the zone"

i think faust was well-intentioned, he explained it to the best of his abilities using the experiences and words of others before him.

but it just goes to show you he's never actually been in The Zone. guys like us have been in The Zone. we've even lived there for long stretches of time, to the point where The Zone became as familiar to us as our ordinary reality. simply put, there are two types of bball fans, those who have experienced The Zone first-hand (and with this comes an enlightenment, a higher bball understanding), and those who haven't (armchair fans, stat nerds, etc).

The only zone BD has ever experienced is the white zone at the airport, where they load and unload him and his scooter.

lmao this is proof that you remain a virgin to "the zone"

The whole point is that it's an ambient exception to ordinary reality, no matter how superlative ordinary reality may be

The only "zone" Kaderp has ever been in is the friendzone. A place that he will never escape.

Is there any scientific explanation behind when you get hot in certain sports.

For example, today i was playing 3 on 3 pick up basketball at the park, and at one time, i made eight 3 pointers in a row, it felt like i was throwing golf ball into the ocean.
There's a psychological concept called "Flow" which seems to account for a lot of it.

Also, in basketball, I think we shoot with muscle memory, and there are tiny variables like how tired you are, how loose or tight the rims might be, and so on, that occasionally coincide with the way you personally shoot to cause your shots to start going in much more often without you changing anything.

There's also been research that indicates there's no such thing as being in the zone and it's all just probability playing tricks on us. That seems less likely to me, but I haven't looked too much into it.
