The only reason why anyone cared about khabib/ferguson or khabib/maxi or any other combination is because of the potential matchup against conor.
Make no mistake, Conor was a big part of wme making the purchase. He is that foundation for the buy.
Truth is...conor could have fought once a month and cleared out his division easy. But if he did that....nobody would be left and nobody would care to watch.
If conor didn't exist, ufc would be dying atm. Khabib or tony or al or whoever comes out on top would become an underground hero before the gate closed and the ufc started to die for good and go out of business.
Hate conor, yeah. But you only root for the other guys because you fantasize about them vs conor. If conor didn't exist you guys wouldn't give AF about tony or khabib.
I have no issue with new fans getting into the sport. If Conor is the reason you became a fan ,great! I've been a fan since the 90s, seen many folk come and go because of a certain fighter the they loved did amazing ,then when said fighter left so did the new fan. Whybibwrite this is simple, this is how you sound. A fan of the fighter ( Conor ) not the sport.
If Conor is what got you interested in this bout, then good. However MANY and most fans wanted to see Tony vs Khabib because it is a FANTASTIC fight!!! Plain and simple.
When Tony was replaced with Max, same thing ... it's one hell of a bout. Even now MMA fans want to see Khabib. It has nothing to do with Mac.
You believe what you want. The sport has been around way before Conor and will be around way after. Every generation of superstar does better numbers and makes more cash than the last. They should be, the sport is STILL new and growing. The last generations you may of heard of, Chuck was huge, then GSP shattered his numbers, then Ronda , now Conor. Don't believe he is bigger than he is .
I'm certainly Not a Conor hater. I've met and talked with him before he became a huge superstar. I liked him a lot and wished him nothing but success. Been to five of his UFC fights live.
Now as an MMA fan I'm upset. He's let his fans, his deserving opponents, the UFC and more importantly the sport and himself down. Not defending for over 500 days and healthy is unacceptable. The stupid reason of "he doesn't have to fight he has money" is crap. What other Great athlete in any sport doesn't compete because they have huge funds ? NONE!! Not when they're just entering their prime. Conor in a short few year will have huge regret , the window of time is short to compete at the highest level. Trust me he will have regrets.
The antics if late no matter what are disgraceful. The guys that can't fight now, who need to out food on the table. Glass in an eye could be extremely serious, what if it doesn't heal right and a career is ended? What if Conor is found guilty, then can't get a visa to fight in the USA? Even worse ,in a few years how does he explain this to his son? I am sad, pissed and a bit perplexed with these antics. It's not what a Champion does.
What I do know is Conor better get his shit together soon or he will lose it all.
