Media Henry Cejudo rustled with UFC paying Jorge Masvidal, who's 'got 17 losses,' but not him

I already said I didn't see the Marlon fight live, so to me it wasn't exciting. MM was a crap decision. It was within a year of the scoring criteria changing to not reward takedowns and control time as highly. Under the scoring criteria MM won that fight. The judges scored under the previous criteria. MM finished him in their first fight, they are still 1-1.

The TJ and Cruz fights I already commented on. I feel they were early stoppages, that's my criticism of CCC. He flails around with 10-20 strikes that barely even land and gets early stoppages. I feel he left both the 125-135 and particularly the 135 division as it became one of the best in the sport. He didn't clear the divisions, he had 4 goods fights and then retired. Now he sits on the sidelines bagging out everyone else, whilst having no intention to step in because of "money". Come in and clear the ddivision out and show you deserve to get paid. Fight 3-5 times in a year and beat all these supposed people lower than you and make money that way. He knows he is 50/50 at best with everyone which is why he is chasing a big payday. One loss and he is the next Ben Askren, but atleast he held 2 belts so the legacy is still intact.

Blah blah. Cejudo was putting on bangers even before those fights ie: vs. Wilson Reis and Benevidez

No one really wants to watch him fight. He just isn't exciting and all his best wins are early stoppages or him losing to DJ.
On top of that he retired when the division was full of contenders. He isn't coming back so stop talking.
I definitely want to watch him fight. If you created the perfect fighter in a test tube, it is Cejudo: youngest wrestling Olympic gold medalist ever, golden gloves boxer, studied karate with Machida and athleticism to match his relentless will to win. His only flaw is he is small and fans like the big guys. If you like MMA more than the outside the cage soap opera tuff and gimmickry, Cejudo is the guy you should want paid. IMHO, he and Khamzat are the best this sport has to offer right now.

You are probably right until the last two lines.

You can't say that about Khamzat until he lives up to his hype, which he might just do. But, still.

Cejudo and Colby not khamzat are the best sport has to offer.

Not to mention cejuos whole act is inspired by Colby. He is a fan boy.

It has to really bother Cejudo that he retired as champ and Dana said, Ok. See ya.

Then Khabib retires as the champ and Dana begs him not to, won't even recognize the retirement and refuses to take the belt off of him for months. Ouch. That's got to sting.

Cejudo vs Yan/Volk//TJ would be bangers.

Those fights would be great. All Cejudo has to do is actually fight!

Really? Every time I watch his "stoppage wins" against Cruz or TJ it reminds me of a little kid flailing in a school fight. He never actually lands much after the initial shot, but throws heaps of little arm punches so they stop it.

Nobody was TKO'd in either of those fights.

I mean there heads are bouncing of the mats lol.

He retired, why does he care? He's probably earned more in a few fights than Jorge has in about 40 combined.

Still one of the worst negotiating misfires in history.
If he's man enough to subdue his ego he'd come back and show everyone he's still the best at either division. Then he can maybe get his money fights.
He was on a roll but then he overplayed his hand with that "retirement" and turns out *crickets*
Now he's back to square one almost
I wouldn’t even offer him a shot at BW after what he pulled. Number 1 contender fight for his contracted fight purse. If he won that, then a TS. Then I’d make him defend 3 times against the next guy in line before even thinking about giving him a FW title fight. If none of that was acceptable to Cejudo, I’d invite him to sit out the remainder of his contract.

He really is almost back to square one at this point.

Imagine how much money he could have made by now if he had not retired when his division was full of good fights for him.
I was just thinking about that. Even at manlet pay, that has to be about $1.5M-$2M not including ppv points (If he got them). I just can’t feel bad about somebody if they turned that down for a cpl years work. He screwed the pooch and found out literally nobody cared that he “retired”.

Monumentally bad business decision.

I guess this means that the recent conversation between Henry’s management and the UFC didn’t go as planned.

He keeps publicly saying he deserves more money. As long as that is his main demand, the UFC will let him sit out. As the dbl champ he should have started these negotiations behind closed doors. He had the most leverage in his career at that point. But he literally threw that leverage away.

How could his manager allow him to do that? Unless Cejudo just went rogue? But, at this point Cejudo has two options, imo.

He can suck it up and take the highest opponent in whatever weight class, for his current contracted pay. Or.. He can sit out his contract.

He has ZERO leverage right now. But the guy keeps demanding a raise, and a bonus (a free TS at FW, or Max in a number 1 contender fight). Good luck.

Edit. I just noticed I typed the word weight when I meant to type pay. I changed the one word.

I think he'd be a decent draw if he kept fighting and winning. He played his cards too soon and now he's regretting it.

I agree. I’ve said it many times, Cejudo derailed his own hype train. He had a lot of support from the fans after beating Dillashaw, Moraes and Cruz. He was on the verge of cementing his legacy as one greatest fighters in this sport, but he retired. He expected an outcry from the fans, but it backfired on him. If Cejudo would’ve kept on defending his belt, I guarantee money wouldn’t be an issue for him.

I don't think he fully grasps that even now.
