Media Henry Cejudo: "Colby Covington is your next champ"

Most fighters are horrible at picking fights. Like 90% of them picked Usman to win last night.

Nobody believes in Leon for whatever reason.

Most people don’t believe in strikers as champions. People kept saying Anderson would lose via wrestle fuck but instead his reign ended by getting KOd on the feet and then all his subsequent losses besides the DC one were to strikers. Yes, Weidman is a wrestler and was GNP anderson but still he got the job done on the feet and ultimately both fights ended there.

And then they say “see told you” despite racking up wins against other wrestlers

"Edwards is a better striker"

That's a lazy take. He's going to have a lot of trouble implementing his game plan with Colby pressuring him with the pace. He's an elite striker but like Stephen Thompson, he needs that distance. Edwards doesn't have the power of Usman nor the hand speed of Masvidal. I don't like Colby but this is a favorable match up for him. He's quicker than Usman and arguably has better cardio. Colby likely won't be able to finish him because he lacks physical strength and power but he can very well dominate him from the very beginning to the end.

Undeserved title shot for Colby but a very winnable fight.

Nah, Edwards wins comfortably.

Edwards TDD appeared to be specifically trained to defend Usman's style of wrestling/take down.

After spending nearly 8 rounds with Usman, they built a game plan to stop him.

Leon won't have that experience when he faces Colby.

He said it's an easy fight for Colby so I'm curious specifically why he thinks Colby matches up with Leon so much better.

Usman is slower than ever and can’t wrestle anymore. Which would give him succes a few times on the feet.
Leon isn’t busy and has no power. Which isn’t a good combination
Colby is relentless and will make you work for 25 mins.

"Let me convene with Adam Hunter and I'll just let him respond for me like usual".

Colby is an easy fight for Leon. This is the same Colby that got pieced up by Damion Maia.

Wtf are people talking about Colby being faster than Usman?

Colby is not a fast fighter at all. He's got a decently fast double leg and can hustle pretty good in scrambles, but that's about where it ends. On the feet Leon is way faster and crisper, Colby's kicks are hilariously slow and telegraphed.

Colby has that bedroom cardio that will suit him well in the later rounds.

I mean going by the first two fights, Usman was the logical choice.

Because Leon slows down the longer the fight goes.
"Leon slows down the longer the fight goes".

Does he? I mean he KO'd Usman in round 5 in the first fight, and definitively won round 5 on all judges scorecards in the 2nd fight. And he did that against Usman who is known for his cardio and pace. So I'm not sure about this narrative.

Colby is basically the same fighter as Usman but with materially less strength and power. I think the matchup clearly favors Leon.

He said it's an easy fight for Colby so I'm curious specifically why he thinks Colby matches up with Leon so much better.
Colby is a better striker than Usman that throws more volume and has better pressure... Usman has a bit more power and is a stronger overall grappler... I think Colbys style of being in your face will be tougher for a guy like Leon to fight against.
