Help me understand this theory sherbros quote often use

How about this one, the second time barry drops kongo i would say 90% of the time this fight is stopped, but because kongo comes back to win you would of called it an early stoppage? Only after knowing the outcome, if they stopped it right there i doubt anyone would have been saying thats too early kongo was just about to knock him out

I agree. Fights should go on until one fighter dies because Kongo KO'd Barry.

It's more about people longing for referee stops to be more standardized and less subjective. Yes, sometimes fighter A comes back and wins, but it can be annoying when two fights before that the guy you were rooting for lost via a referee decision despite receiving far less damage than the current fighter A who came back to win.

I agree, but some of those fights could have justifiably been stopped and I doubt many would have complained. I was just watching the Frankie vs Maynard 2 fight yesterday and fuck, Frankie was flopping around everywhere. That fight could definitely have been stopped, but of course glad it wasn't because Frankie came back and got the draw.

It's basically all hindsight is 20/20 bullshit.

Either fight you listed could have been stopped and no one would have complained. Neil was turtled ...

No he wasn't. He was almost constantly in motion, trying to recover back to his feet.

"Turtled" is like Faber when Barao was laying into him. Zero motion, just completely covered up waiting for someone else to take action - either the opponent to stop/adjust position or the ref to stop him.

"Turtled" is taking no positive action. Magny was taking positive action.

Yep, I thought that it was a good call to allow the fight to continue unlike a lot of people here on Sherdog did. The ref made the right decision, he weathered the storm and went on to win convincingly....

At least there's some people who agree with me

Did u not see my point? i said these were the only fights that came to mind,my point was you cant use the excuse if the fighter came back to win then it wasnt stopped early because the fights that are stopped the fighter didnt have a chance to try and come back
Perfect example. The fight should probably have been stopped when Kongo dropped. Just because it wasn't and it turned out ok for Kongo doesn't make it the right decision, same as the second gif you posted. Even though it ultimately turned out that the fighter was not actually done after all, letting the fight continue showed a disregard for the fighter's safety. Mind you, in the case of Kongo, the ref was standing right over him so he would be in the best position to see if he was out of it or not.

But that's just the thing. The ref has a difficult job and sometimes it comes down to a split-second decision and you might be right either way. The thing is, they should be erring in favor of fighter health and safety.

I certainly do. I still don't really understand the OP. I don't see any excuses there. I see good judgement by the ref in the first round and piss poor judgement by the same ref in the second round. Go figure, he's a human being and made a mistake.

Kongo falls like he died but he was clearly moving around and wasn't out stiff at any point. I'm sure other refs would've called it just based on how dramatically he fell either time. Then he was aware enough to know Barry was pretty much done for right away.

Well how would we know if every fight that the ref stops the other guy couldnt have come back to win? Thats the whole point, you cant give some guys more chances then others because its unfair

See you can say see they didnt stop this fight to early because magny came back and won

But will never know if rothwell could have come back because they stopped it

Im sure there are better examples these are just the ones i thought of
Magny is defending, not taking them straight to the face.
