Looks like ISIS got its hands on a few GRAD rockets and bombarded the Russian airbase near Palmyra with them. Russians just lost an entire flight of attack choppers and their support infrastructure if the report is true.

New satellite imagery appears to reveal extensive damage to a strategically significant airbase in central Syria used by Russian forces after a reported attack by so-called Islamic State (IS).

Four helicopters and 20 lorries were destroyed in a series of fires inside the T4 base last week, the images from intelligence company Stratfor suggest.

The cause of the fires is unconfirmed.

The Russian military has denied reports that it had lost helicopters at the base as a result of an IS attack.

Really the last people to piss of, Ruskis should just drop the father of all bombs on Raqqa.

Russia's military is overated, under supplied, and poorly trained.

Hahahah I'm guessing somebody was careless with their cigarette

Good catch by Stratfor, didn't know they had their own sats.

The attacks on the runway there look like an Air bombing. They look too localized and grouped to be from rockets too me. Does anyone else have thoughts on this? Artillery isn't going to do that either.

Hmm, is this where we claim this is evidence that Russia is supplying ISIS with arms? Because whenever some ISIS thugs stole American-made equipment from the pathetic Iraqi Army, the Russians ran with that as evidence that ISIS was being supported directly by the White House.

Looks like Putin's pocket will bleed more.

Imagine Russia went into their basement, dusted this thing off and dropped it over raqqa as payback.

Seems pretty darn accurately struck to be a rocket attack.

Russian technology and weapons are bad, they are based mainly on the infantry, they "won" the ww2 via millions of soldiers, notwithstanding millions of Russian soldiers died, which technically they got the biggest casualties 8,668,000 in ww2.

On the other hand, when the Americans invaded Iraq, especially the first few days, there was no or limited casualties.

This kind of news is related western countries vs Russia, the old cold war propaganda is continuing, nothing new here

Yet everybody's freaking about about eventual Russian "invasion" of Europe n restoration of Soviet Union/Russian empire...

Which one is it? Make up your mind

Im sure however terrible Russias arsenal is, it's more than enough to stomp on ISIS.

Its possible to be a mix of both. Russians historically suck at prolonged campaigns in wars of aggression, they are at their best when they have had their nose bloodied. For every Stalingrad you have something like the Winter War. In the hypothetical scenario Russia invaded Europe conventionally (With missiles who knows how shit goes down), I could see them being like a brittle metal fist, enough to smash everything it its way or shattering upon contact with a harder material. Russia's military has both shit and elite levels of soldiers like any army. The reason they have a decent number of elites is because of economics of scale. Even if the proportion of elites to rank and file is low, comparatively to other countries they could field more elites. Having said that I think your typical Russian unit at any organization level is under supplied, under equipped, and under trained like said. They are not even involved in a major conflict so the parts of their forces that are utilized (like in border conflict ridden areas of Eurasia) should be of good quality but like any glance at units used in Chechnya and similar conflicts shows they are poor quality.

Russia's army may suck (I know nothing about military equipment and modern warfare), but the russian army is like 1,000,000,000,000,000 more powerful than ISIS.

Nice and precise shelling.

Must be an outfit of John McCain's "5-7% extremist" CIA trained&armed rebel faction.

Russia's military is overated, under supplied, and poorly trained.

As is legitimately every other military.

Point is the ones that are well trained well supplied and funded are pure psychopaths and the guy in charge is one of them.

Sure because fighting ignorant inept incompetent muslims is totally parallel to fighting the fucking wehrmacht, yes.
