Metro Officer of the Year attacked during arrest in east Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The 2015 Metro-Nashville Officer of the Year was attacked Tuesday night while attempting to make an arrest in east Nashville.

Metro police were called to the Cayce Homes just after 6 p.m. on reports of a fight and alleged gunfire.

After he arrived, Officer Matthew Cammarn reportedly witnessed a man assault a woman. According to police, the 22-year-old “aggressively walked up to the officer,” who told the man to put his hands behind his back.



As the two were fighting and Shannon swung his fists, other people in a crowd began pulling, pushing, kicking and hitting the officer in an effort to free Shannon. The incident was caught on camera and some video was posted to Facebook.

Eventually, Shannon broke free and took off running. Officer Cammarn chased after him and the 22-year-old was taken into custody one street over.

No, but beating women and resisting arrest is standard in some communities. It happens thousands of times a year in this country, but is accepted and celebrated behavior for some folks.

I feel sorry for those people. Stupid cops, coming in and trying to ruin their cultural traditions of violence. They're truly victims.....
