My buddy with no health insurance fell of his bicycle seems like he broke his arm.

There are 100s Of humans waiting on “emergency” healthcare in Houston Texas Ben Tuab hospital asleep.

There must be a better way.

Sorry to hear about your friend, I hope he is better soon. There's plenty of health care models out there to try.

Im all ears

Currently Wearing those ninja masks to not get sick in this room of death

Im seriously considering a B.B. gun shot to the leg to try and speed up his wait time lol

For real though he’s in mega pain and a bunch of bums are sleeping but “ahead” on the list for service.

They quoted him 10 hours.

Socialise the costs.

Link here for some ratings on health care to start your research. UK is #1, Australia #2, Netherlands #3, NZ #4, etc.

In summary it comes from the medicare levy we pay (2% of taxable income). There are low income exemptions as well as some for seniors and pensioners. There's an additional levy surcharge for individuals earning more than $90,000 or families more than $180,000 (+$1500 per child after the first).

You don't pay the levy surcharge if you choose to take private health insurance, which advertises itself predominantly on shorter waiting lists for surgery in Australia.

Ambulances are free, most people have access to doctors for free.

Fwiw he’s a veteran lol

Here’s the other people in the waiting room

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Hopefully one day in your country access to free/affordable healthcare is recognised as a human right, rather than a privilege.

I'm not saying he'd been seen any quicker in the NHS or similar socialised systems, but at least the headache of expensive medical bills wouldn't be a further worry.

It’s not so much about the bill as it is the “system” mandates the only way to avoid the bulk without insurance to be seen for healthcare is for it to be an emergency.

So you literally have 100 people asleep in an “emergency” room waiting to be seen for general healthcare needs instead of an emergency

I'd imagine that problem would be somewhat minimised if these people had access to a free General Practitioner service that could act as a buffer in regards to what does and doesn't require emergency treatment, in a similar way that the GP Services in the UK does. This would free up valuable time of the A&E staff to see actual emergencies, like your friend.

I see no reason a country as rich and powerful as the USA couldn't provide that for their citizens.

This sounds like a commercial. Where's the out of work late 90s actor?

GPs are just drug dispensers. Only useful doctors are surgeons.

No health care or hmo? That's pretty careless on his part.
