Hey guys I wanted to know If anyone is knowledgeable on the topic of health insurance.
I tried googling, but most of the results where just companies trying to shove their policies down my throat. So basically what am I looking for , and whats a fair price range? I only bring in about $21k a year. Thanks in advance.

Does your employer provide health insurance and are not happy with the coverage or are you trying to buy your own?

having a job with health insurance and retirement in almost as important as the wage you earn.

I'm assuming with your income level that you are fairly young and that your employer is not providing health insurance. If this is the case, I'd look for a high deductible health savings plan. Basically, this is a plan for a major medical bill. Besides covering preventative care, it does not cover anything until you meet your deductible. At your age, there is a good chance you don't have health issues and medical expenses. Paying for a comprehensive plan doesn't really make much sense if this is the case.

When you have a health savings plan, you open up a health savings account at a bank. Contribute to that every once in a while. Keep your records of that as it's a tax exempt account giving you tax savings (more of a tax refund in your case). Not only will you be getting the tax savings, but it teaches you to have money set aside for health costs.

I could ramble on and on about this as I've had to shop insurance quite a bit. My boss pays for mine 100%, but he doesn't cover family. My wife's former employer didn't offer benefits so we played the insurance game for a few years.
