Crime Headlining Crime Megathread Vol 4.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/carlee-russell-missing-side-of-highway-toddler-hoover-alabama-search/

A woman spotted a child wondering on an expressway and pulled over to help him. She called the police and then a friend as she stopped. The friend reports she heard the woman ask the child if they were okay, then her screaming, and then background noises on the expressway. Her car and phone were found at the scene with no trace of her or the child. Truly chilling.
Crazy. So she is missing person now? Doesn't make sense at all

Sigh...

Here's the problem I have:

Other than the obvious - a woman being abducted (I'm assuming killed). A lot of criminals think on a micro scale. Thinking about temporary reward and small scale greed. Now the question is this: is this the kind of world you want to live in... even as a criminal?

Now in the (unlikely but still possible event) that the friend on the line sees an abandoned kid who needs help, what do you think her first thought will be... "I need to stop and check on him" or "I'm gonna keep going and not risk it because of what happened to Carlee"?

These asshole bad guys also have kids, nieces, nephews, etc. who may need help one day, they just discouraged that many more folks from ever helping a stranger. Fostering an environment of mistrust for their offspring and kin.

Especially repulsive that a fuckin' child was used in this.

We do indeed. It's hard to make sense of what could drive someone to do such a thing. Terrifying as a parent.
It's literally like fishing. You throw the lure out and don't know what will bite.

I'm assuming someone used the kid as bait and abducted her.
That’s what I’m thinking. But why? Human traffickers usually use younger people. She’s 25. Unless her family is really wealthy and the person who took her plans on holding her for ransom, the only other thing I can think of is that they’re just your run of the mill psychopath who wants to rape and kill. But those people usually don’t have a child with them. If they have families, they keep their family entirely separate from their psycho hobbies.

I was going to comment that they will probably find her and this was a mental breakdown thing.
The story sounded unlikely to me. That's a dumb method of kidnapping someone. What if the person who stops to help the child is a man? Or Jon Jones? Is the kidnapper really going to risk an eye poke?

These kidnapping types usually pick a victim, they don't just kidnap whoever shows up.

This story is bullshit
