I have the Twins open face headgear for grappling (Twins Open Face Grappling Headgear from Title MMA) and it feels very hard. My friend just got the Title Platinum and it feels much softer compared to my Twins. I was MT sparring with it on(normally don't) and it felt like the punches were landing much harder than when I didn't wear the headgear. It felt fine when we were doing ground work w/ strikes, but on my feat it's another story.

I've heard that thai made headgear is usually harder than what US companies produce. Is there a noticeable difference or is just me? One thought that popped into my head was if the lack of sweat on the surface of the headgear made a difference. I've been intending to pick up something with more coverage for my face for MT in the near future anyway. This is my first pair that I've used sparring so I can't compare it to anything else. Is it a bad thing if the headgear is too hard/soft? Or is it just preference?

I have had a twins headgear before and that shit was hard as fuck. Softer but slightly firm headgears are the best. they should be be so soft where they wilt like pillows or anything like that but if you firmly press into it, it should dent slightly without too much force. The hard headgears can actually amplify the force of a punch simply since it is so hard that when the shot hits, the shock and force is much quicker than with a softer headgear

Try kofightgear.... My friend's KOFG is so much softer than my twins or even my fairtex. I just ordered one from Neil today. Unfortunately they're out of stock until the 3rd of April. There is a review here I just read last nite, after reading the review I decided to buy it.

I have some Mexican Style fight Gear headgear and it seems to be kinda firm when your press on it, but it is a dream when you eat a big shot.

Hey i got a KOFG headgear and found it was super bulky and thought the visibility was a bit hindered.

I have a twins one right now...and you are right, it's super hard. I think it has a steel frame core or something !!!

So you were saying the fairtex headgear was not much better than the twins ? Does it also feel like there's a steel core ?

I was going to get this Fairtex brand :

Fairtex Muay Thai Head Gear HG-3

I have the same fairtex headgear in red. I like the fairtex more than my twins but my KOFG is my fav. While the fairtex is thinner profile than the KOfightgear it offers a little more protection than my twins. My KOfightgear is a little heavier than the fairtex and twins but offers the most protection I think. Did you try adjusting the KOfightgear?

I was looking at the Fairtex for more coverage but after the Twins I don't know anymore. I'm thinking about Grant. Anyone use their mexican style headgear?

No, I use fight gear's (Not KO fightgear) Mexican and I love it.

Fightgear Air Max Headgear its soft enough to eat those big punches.

I've got a set of Fairtex headgear.

It seems a little stiff to me, but I've sparred with it and taken shots from some heavy hitters and it's never felt too hard. It's actually a pretty simple piece of gear. Not very heavy duty at all even though it's got a chin guard.
