HBO - Chernobyl anyone?

ending of EP2 is pure horror.
Harris and Skarsgard are the best

It was worse than that according to witnesses. The three plant workers did not go near the reactor core apparently, they guided divers (soldiers) who went further. They all died hours after

"On 4 May, we found the gate valve which had to be opened in order to drain water from the lower part of the suppression pool. There was little water in it. We looked into the upper pool through the hole of the reserve passage and found it empty. I got 2 diving suits and gave them to the soldiers, so that they could go and open the valve. They also used mobile pumps and flexible piping. The new chairman of the government commission, I.S. Silayev, offered a special inducement by promising a car, a dacha, an apartment and benefits for the rest of their lives to the family of anyone killed in this operation who succeeded in opening the valve. Those participating were Ignatenko, Saakov, Bronnikov, Grishchenko, Captain Zborovsky, Lietenant Zlobin, and corporals Oleynik and Navava".

Just finished episode 3.

Horrifying event in so many ways...

Where did you get that quote from?

Truth About Chernobyl by Gregori Medvedev

Also according to Sergei Sobolev (Deputy head of the executive committee of the Shield of Chernobyl Association)

"So here was the task: who would dive in there and open the bolt on the safety valve? They promised them a car, an apartment, a dacha, aid for their families until the end of time. They searched for volunteers. And they found them! The boys dived, many times, and they opened that bolt, and the unit was given 7,000 roubles. They forgot about the cars and apartments they promised - that's not why they dived. These are people who came from a certain culture, the culture of the great achievement. They were a sacrifice."

From Voices of Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich

Hard to tell the truth amid so many cover ups but the circumstances surrounding the 3 surviving divers beg the questions:
(1) how many plant workers were trained to dive?
(2) how did they survive when most died in less fatal conditions?
(3) why did they remain anonymous after the incident?

Wasn't sure if this was going to be good. Will have to watch.

Just watched the third episode, and really liked it. They really went as far as translating actual (anti) Soviet jokes of the time to make it immersive, those were literally the kinds of things people were saying in private since you couldn’t say it in the open. I was about to turn 5 in Kiev, less than 60 miles from the accident. And uh... I was so skeptical, but it’s just amazing to see be done so well.
Great show. Full of mostly villains, a lot how it really was, sadly.
But they also found and made heroes of the regular Soviet people. Yeah, we were getting fucked on the daily, but we understood and made piece with it. And they made it work, me being still alive and allowed to a fuck up as evidence of it.
Great reminder of two things, 1.) humans are far stronger against radiation than the average scientist thought. Not that there’s any honor in that, but Kiev froze and went into frenzy, but then basically outright survived. And then 2.) The Soviet government gave 0 fucks about who lived or who died, which is also true, they just got lucky

great episode, the miners were boss as hell.

Best thing on TV in a very long time. Watching episode 3 in a few hours.

Another amazing episode.

Kind of unfortunate an amazing show like this will get far less attention and viewers than GoT due to lack of flash, tits and violence but to me is superior in every way.

I remember my wife thought i was nuts when i bought tyvek hazmat suits and respirators a few years back...last night she understood after watching that shit.
lol I might have to look into that shit can go nuclear very easily in california or some other shit hits the fan scenario with refineries or explosions here.

reminds me of Hisashi Ouchi the guy who died of radiation poisoning that was brutal he was basically skinned/burned alive by the radiation and melted.

I can't even post the story because of the graphic pics worst way to die.

Omfh i just googled it and saw photos, poor guy, story seams so unreal and horific and yet it is true...

Another great episode, the mine boss was the fucking man.

I was cringing like hell with that woman who wouldn’t leave her husbands side. By the end, when he was about done, it was like holy shit. The pain he must have been in
