Social Have you noticed this in your place of work?

Just had an orientation day for new faculty yesterday at one of the universities where I'll be teaching in the fall and there's a Pronoun tab on the class site for students where they can put in their preferred pronouns. And yes, professors are expected to both check and adhere to whatever they put. No surprise it's bigger in academia than the corporate world - I've noticed more and more academics with pronoun lines in their e-mail signatures - though I imagine it'll only grow in the latter, too.

This whole pronoun business always makes me think of this:

Can you just go 'you' or do they literally force you to use some weird shit.

If this ever affects me I'll probably just do my best to avoid pronouns altogether. I'll either just address people directly or refer to them by name. And in the meantime I'll find some other place to work.

We weren't explicitly told "You have to call every student by their specifications or else you'll be fired" but, in listening to the rundown, it came as most stuff like this does with a "Just go along or there'll probably be trouble" vibe. Hopefully it won't be a bridge that I'll have to cross. My plan is to always refer to students by their first names, that way it'll never come up and I'll avoid the bridge altogether.

Of course, historically speaking, it's always taken me a while to learn new names, which means that I'll probably spend the first few weeks using "you" quite a bit :D

So I assume many of us work in an office setting. (no disrespect to the blue collar folk, and men who work with their hands. you guys are awesome, and I don't know shit about mechanics)

I've noticed, more and more in email chains, or on business cards people have their names, position, phone numbers, work address and ....Preferred pronouns.

Have you come across this as well? what are your thoughts?
I got this in an email about some training I was being scheduled for. Given that this person worked in "harm reduction" I can't say I'm surprised.

Haven't seen that, but usually delete emails long before getting to the point of reading the details in the signature

The stupid cunt in charge of our HR department tried to force 'unconscious bias' training on us, luckily I out rank her so I told her to get fucked and that my department wouldn't be participating. Since my department is about 80% of the company's personnel it got changed to 'optional education'. I heard only three people ended up going to it and it was a complete shit show of nonsense.

I read a post on our slack channel where the feminist making the post was using "they" and "them" interchangeably among plural and singular nouns. It was one of the most confusing and awkward things I've ever read. And yet I think she was proud of her virtue signaling.

If someone feels more comfortable with "he" or "she", then I'll go ahead and do that. I won't just use "they" or "zer" or any weird crap like that.

This is actually a thing in this. Some prefer they/them.

I am curious to hear the reasoning behind their multiple personalities.

Just saw this for the first time a week ago today. It doesn’t bother me but it did make me laugh.

i send and and receive up yo around 75 emails a day and have never seen something like that..I’m also in southern cali if that matters.

I haven't seen this at all, not once. It must be your company, location or industry is leftist/very liberal.

It is funny how when one person does something in the office, if another person or two follows, everyone else falls inline.
I’m southern Cali.. leftist mecca...never seen this. Ever

Friend works for Wells Fargo and they received a corporate email about being able to add their preferred pronoun on business cards and email signatures going forward.

The head of our HR sent us an email recently, not forcing us to do it, but strongly suggesting it and she went on to explain why she does it

So yesterday I had another new faculty orientation for a different college where I'll be teaching this fall, and Jesus Christ on his/her/they's/them's cross, if they start giving out awards to colleges for wokeness, this one would be in the running for the inaugural wokeness award. The leader of the orientation day was trans (a woman dressing like and with the hairstyle of a man), the student support services officer was a gay guy who prefers they/them, and in two and a half hours there were only like five minutes devoted to learning about the college and its policies - everything else was all about their Diversity-Equity-Inclusivity (DEI) initiatives/programs/workshops.

After the first half of the day was over, I just left. I had no intention of staying for the hour-long DEI workshop after lunch. Since when did "Orientation Day" become "Brainwashing Indoctrination Day"?

This shit's real, folks. And it's just getting crazier. Academia is ground zero for the lunacy but it's seeping out into the real world faster and faster.
