Say what you want about him, and I certainly would like to see a rematch with Aldo, but I have to take my hat off to Conor because he was brave enough to go up in weigh and essentially risk his own record.

Who cares? He lost, but everyone was entertained and that is what brings him his fame. He was corageous and I think that he rightfully deserves high props for that.

Congratulations to Conor, to Diaz and to Lorenzo (strike while the iron is hot done right).

One thing GSP did that Conor didn't was clear out his own division and defend the belt he won. He didn't skip past "GO" eliminating all the risks in between.

This is all true. Conor never did what GSP did.

Yep, he tapped out within 5 seconds of being choked. Long before the brain will shut off.

GSP never did that, you're right op.

Conor never cleaned out his division. Conor hasn't even defended the belt yet. Instead he hand picked an opponent who wasn't even training for a fight, and got finished inside of 2 rounds. Let's not pretend that Conor chasing fights in other divisions instead of defending the title is admirable.

Come on, guys, I'm not taking away ANYTHING from GSP, let me make that clear. What he did was awesome in its own right and his legacy is pristine.

I understand GSP was prudent and managed conservatively his career and that is perfectly fine.

What I am drawing attention to here is that many of us like to dream about superfights, about crazy things, Bones vs Velasquez, Silva vs GSP, etc and the matter of fact is those moves are great for us fans but very much risky for the fighters, specially for the champions.

When someone takes the risk, like McGregor just did, we gotta give him some props for that, right? He was a true badass for going wild like that.

TS you are attempting to frame your argument as if you were a lobbyist but it is too weak.

You are trying to take away from GSP. IF not, you would have never wrote the OP.

He shouldn't have been in that weight class in the first place. (145lbs)

Why are people acting as if he is the standard height of that weight class?

Lol this is desperate GSP was a natural WW and clean out his division having revenged all his loses. Conor was a natural 155 who lost to the guy who lost to the champ and tapped out at the first chance he got.

no man, not really, I don't have a dog in this fight. I am just thankful that someone had enough confidence to do what he did. I was very skeptical of him before, but he certainly gained my respect for his performances and for his openess to take those kinds of chances.

GSP tapped out 5 seconds within being ground and pounded, that's far worse.

Refuse to defend his title a single time?

Diaz is a 155 fighter, Conor was fighting at that weight because he can't make 145 anymore.

He took a fight with a low level 155 fighter because the high level 155 got injured. Where's the risk if he was as good as he claimed?

ok, maybe you're right, that's correct I could have thrown anyone else's name, but I picked GSP alone, I can agree with you here.

That was not the intention, though, I have nothing against him and, in fact, I enjoyed watching his fights all the way.

Your post would be better if it wasn't for the snarky comment toward GSP. I understand what you're getting at, but I think it was unnecessary.

I respect Conor taking this fight at 170 and him and Diaz's anytime any weight attitude saved this card, but this is why GSP was so calculated. He had a very smart, realistic, assessment of himself and his abilities, as well as the abilities of his opponents.

Different methods for different people.
