Has there ever been a fighter that exploded to the scene like Khamzat and then just disappeared?

Visa issues? I guess we'll see him fight in the ME at some point.

Well he fought in Sept. Which behind the scenes probably pissed off the UFC on some level. Then Ramadan started in March and ends this week. So I'm guessing we'll hear a lot more out of him shortly.

Also, I'm sure the UFC might have a harder time booking him against opponents they actually want him to fight than many other fighters. Who knows, maybe he gave the UFC some push back on going to 185, I have no ideal. He may want one fight at MW and then guarantee title fight and maybe that's a sticking point. Who knows, a lot of things go on backstage and I'm sure the UFC would love to have him fight more often. Makes them more money.

It is a fairly unique situation. I don't think anyone has ever been so destroyed by a win like Khamzat, that win over Burns shattered his delusional sense of superiority. He honestly stated after the fight he had no idea top fighters were that tough and never thought it was possible that they could hurt him.

Even though Khamzat won the fight, Burns broke him mentally showing him he is nothing like Khabib, his wrestling is shit at that level and his striking is even worse with little chance of competing against the next level of opponents. And now at this point has pretty much made a mockery of himself with everyone actually looking to make a fight realizing they need to look elsewhere because he is a joke that doesn't want to fight.

This is the Khamzat story right here. Rushed to the top and found out when he got there that he should have slowed down and built his skills to a higher level.

I thought his issue was that he can't fight in America because of certain connections to political figures.

Some fans blindly continuing to over hype him and setting unachievable goals, does not do any favors to his situation.

Israel said it best

That to me makes it sound like he hopes he can retire without having to worry about Khamzat, because otherwise I'd think he'd want to fight him sooner than later. Adesanya is 34 and if he's lucky has about two years left of his prime, and Khamzat is five years younger, so the sooner the better for Israel.

Ran through his opponents, won every fight, gained huge media hype, ran his mouth to everyone, was the biggest up and coming fighter in the sport.. and then just disappears entirely and doesn't fight for ages.

Where is Khamzat? What the fuck happened? I'm so confused.

Covid? Injury? Testing pool issues? Still settling on a weight division? UFC still trying to negotiate the most favourable match up imaginable?

Since when has Adesanya ever turned down a worthy challenger? He's fought everyone they've put in front of him. I think he's simply saying a relatively new fighter who is brand new to the higher weight division needs to at least fight a couple of times and win before we can even talk about a title fight. He's 100% correct.

It’s a shame really. No other fighter brings the same intensity as Chimaev into a fight.

Chimaev has that menacing PRIDE Wandy aura. The sport needs more of that and less WWE Chael wannabes
