Has there ever been a better time for any division other than for the HW in 2010

Everyone loves heavyweights, the pure power and high change of a finish

You had a very popular champ in Lesnar, just coming off a big win at the biggest PPV, avenging a loss from a bitter rival in Mir.

You still had the possibility of Fedor coming over the UFC who was considered the best and most popular fighter in the world

You had up and coming undefeated super prospects becoming contenders in JDS, Carwin and Cain, potentially giving Lesnar new challenges for years.

You also have another organization full of other superstar HWs, that could be picked away such as Werdum, Overeem, Barnett, BigFoot, etc, to give the division even more high power matchups

You had Pride legends still near their prime in CroCrop and Big Nog.

You just had a very marketable, exciting, fighter with his own unique characterestists in Big Roy Nelson win the first ever HW TUF.

You were beginning to have former football players transition over to MMA

You had the king of street fights in Kimbo Slice get dominated in TUF and prove street fighting and brawling is no where near the level of UFC

Pride HW division when Nog, Fedor, Sergei, Aleks, Herring, Barnett, Crocop were young

Open weight limit and do away with reebok deal

I have to think about it, but I can already acknowledge that you've got a very solid point. Nice work.

Nice overview TS. Def the best possible moment for all the old and new HWs. But the Pride HW roster from 2000-2006 is still the best HW's we've ever had.

Good times, indeed. Best time is debatable. I can't think of a better time.

Fedor the most popular? LOL he wouldn't sell 300k buys, LW right now is better, BW right now is better, FW right now is better.

LW right now is definitely one of the best divisions ever, HW was at its best in the mid 00's.

this is actually the best time for heavyweights as a lot of the old guard will be retiring. That leaves MASSIVE opportunity for fighters to move in and make a name for themselves. I could even see some LHWs moving up for easier title shots and fame ala Randy Couture opportunistically moving up to fight Big Tim.

Think of it like a power vacuum. There is always demand for big guys to fight, something will fill that void. Who that is? Hard to say just yet but I predict a completely different heavyweight landscape in the next 2-3 years.
