Food & Drink has the protein craze gone overboard?

years and years ago back in the dark ages, Oprah did a test at a shopping center advertising a new diet on hotdogs and ice cream and people jumped on it.
She then interview them on WHY!?!?!?
Because they are delicious <JagsKiddingMe>

I need to consume around 220 grams of protein a day. I live off the protein junk. That crappy core power protein drink is a good way to consume a lot of protein for low calories.

I get pretty disgusting with protein powders. I will mix it with coffee. I do look at protein powders to see if they aren’t amino spiking it.

That reminds me ...I haven't taken my anabolic supplements this morning.

So has the protein craze gone overboard?
and be honest what weird protein combo do you eat /drink/inject ?

"Apparently protein shakes and protein bars don’t cut it anymore. Americans are so obsessed with protein that even an Arnold Palmer comes infused with it. Perhaps protein iced tea was inevitable. Whenever something is trendy, the food industry can’t help but push things to the extreme—consider “plant-based” peanut butter (as if the spread was not already vegetarian) and gluten-free pumpkin dog biscuits. But even compared with other food trends, the protein situation has gotten out of hand. Just last week, Starbucks announced that it’s piloting a high-protein, banana-flavored cold foam. There is protein water, Kardashian-branded protein popcorn, and “macho” protein pasta sauce. If you want to get drunk while bulking up, consider a protein-fortified pale ale or a “Swoleberry” spiked protein seltzer. Nothing is safe from the protein pandemonium. Name a food, and the protein version of it probably exists."

The Starbucks one makes sense as it sounds like what protein shakes pretend to be.

As for the fad, I think it's swinging the other way now where "online science" is starting to say low made up numbers for protein such as .75 grams per pound.

Thanks Mr Bro Science.

Too much what type of protein?
What is too much?
It's bloody difficult to get "enough" protein for optimum athletic performance.
Getting too much is hard work.

A powder isn't inherantly crap.

It really isn't hard at all if you eat meat.

Powders are significantly inferior compared to eating real food.

The only thing that I personally look for with bulked up protein content is yogurt. Other than that, I'm good getting it from meat, eggs, etc. I will say that I do get some high protein items for the kids. All of them like some meat, but different from each other. Two love salmon, one doesn't. Two love steak, one doesn't. Two love beef tacos, one doesn't. I'm always substituting protein items in there for the one.

that 3:e kid seems like a picky eater.

It's even more of a pain in the ass than that - the one rotates. Kid 1 and 2 like tacos, kid 3 doesn't. Kid 3 and 1 like steak, kid 2 doesn't. It's annoying as hell.

You are right in terms of pure diet but there is nothing wrong with whey powder. It has a well researched background and is practical. Cooking isn't always practical and having powdered protein is fine.

P.s. Thought this was War Room and I was trying to get some action going in here.
