There was a time when getting mount was an instakill on an opponent

Every card now we see fighters get mount sometimes multiple times in a fight and opponent survives or escapes. Feels like half guard is a better more dominant position in MMA. Im not talking back mount but just a full mount....

This mightve well have been guard LMAOOOOOO

Almeida did not want to take so many much #Risk during this #Battle . Imagine he was posture, then #BlackBeastCombatant he give back, then #JustStandUp and slide him off, then throw ham fist to head? Almeida was having fear of this smoke, so he play safely. Houston Sambo is quite deceptive.

Mount is still very many much effective for MMA battle, Street Beef, Sambo, or otherwise .

It’s actually not that hard to defend in full mount if you know what you’re doing, at least from strikes.

Jailtons ground and pound was so bad that it has sherdoggers thinking full mount is ineffective

Bonfim had mount at the end of round 1 with almost 2 minutes left and got TKOd later

Its not that its completely ineffective just not AS effective as it used to be. Getting mount used to be a death wish in MMA. It hasnt been that for a long time. Every card we see fighters escape or at the least survive mount.

Most higher level grapples seem to prefer back control so mount is just a means to get to better position and guys with good ground and pound tend to be able to throw effectively from all top positions so mount isn't their end goal but dealing damage at all times.

There is certain guys that feel like once they secure mount the fight is over. Jones and Glover come to mind of being the ultimate blend of ground and pound and sub threat from mount.

Let's ask Olenik

Its really like these fighters don't have that kill instinct in that position.
That and fighters are way better at getting out from there when strikes are being thrown.

Everyone knows "some" BJJ nowadays.

Its not as talked about but back control defence and mount defence are BJJ 101 now guys are great at killing hooks compared to before.
MMA grappling evolves so much before our eyes that it's hard to even notice.

It wasn't too many years ago where a armbar threat was enough to consider a guys a dangerous guard. Now days we never see arm bar subs from bottom.

I’m just joking around. I agree mount isn’t as effective as it was, especially in terms of finishing the fight in full mount. Full mount more often leads to rnc, etc. The real thing here is you actually have to do something with mount which Jailton hardly did
