Your wife should be Grandfathered in. From what I've read the plan is only going to affect people that borrow from 2019 and later.

Lowering the corporate tax rate has been very successful here in the UK (one of the few things our government has got right) and has actually resulted in a big increase in corporate tax revenue. You need to get your head around the idea that more tax doesn't automatically mean more money. If anything it tends to have the opposite effect as high taxes stifle investment and growth, which has a negative impact on everyone.

No. Under the conditions of the loan when it was taken out, there was a mutual agreement that the loan would be forgiven after 10 years of public service work

Also, it is the highest interest loan we have. If it would have been just straight up pay was the only option, we would have paid out extra monthly money at that one instead of other, lower interest loans. We had only been paying the minimums on the federal loan of my wife, due to the previously mentioned agreement the government is now reneging on.

Thank you for this information. It’s different from what I had previously read (maybe the potential bill changed due to outrage) and I need to do a new batch of research it seems as to what exactly the case is.

I’m not (fully) against doing away with the public service loan forgiveness. My biggest issue was that the program was in existence when agreeing to the loan, and people have made long term financial plans based on it being there. Pulling it out from under us is utterly unfair. Not having it to begin with and knowing that, is a different matter
