Listen, serious thread

I want more trees

But I don't want the tree roots to eat my pipes

In most place isn't this a free service? You call someone and they come over and put flags where things are?

See I'm not doing a major dig project - just prepping up to plant trees but I don't want the guy to be annoyed that I wasted his time to plant trees

Do you tip these guys?

I hope it's all a free service

Anyone actually done this is most of all what I want, life experiences

i think the word is digged clipman, not dug. dug is a boys name.

I hate when someone calls right before I'm about to dig. I have to put my shovel down and then pick it up again once the call is over. And I'm sidetracked because of the conversation.

I hate my fucking life sometimes

If you don't want to hit an electrical line or your sewage line then you might want to call the city and ask them to mark it for you. It's something that's good to know anyways. Might as well do it now.

Thanks friend, this life experience evaded me so I wanted to ask questions

will call soon

Yeah the gas/electric/water/sewer companies should come out and mark stuff. Its called blue staking in my town.

Yes call them. It’s free, you don’t even need to be there. They’ll come mark the line.

I've used these Services plenty over the years as I've done foundational work, drainage and plenty of fences.

It's not a bad idea to have the documents so that you are not liable for any damage to anyones public or private utility. Plus you can be charged for fire and ambulance. Not to mention you can legit kill yourself or do major property damage. I've been around long enough to see gas, water main and fiber optics get spooled up on an auger bit...not good...bad.

Just give him a call, and if your city isn't on he Public Service welfare program of maintaining its bureaucracies, it should have a electronic version where you are sent all documents pertaining to that property. No flagging necessary from a third party.

I'm surprised you're able to do yard work after struggling with tight sheets recently.

Here it's called Diggers Hotline. One call gets anyone who has underground service in the area out to mark it.

A guy I know bought a house in a new subdivision. He wanted to plant some larger trees so he rented a tree spade truck. You go to the place you want to plant the tree and dig the plug of dirt out first. Then you take that to the tree farm, leave the plug, dig up the tree you want, take it back and drop it in the hole you dug.

He dug a plug out on one side of the driveway and hit the power feed for the subdivision. The power company came out. The guys asks if there was a power line on the other side where he also planned to put one. They said no. He digs out that plug and brings up the 600 pair telephone cable. It cost his insurance company around $9,000 just because he didn't call.

What do you call a guy with a shovel?
