I remember getting into MMA when it was still gaining hype in 2009 with the video game. I became addicted to watching the spike events and learning about the fighters from Pride, strikeforce, and later DREAM. I got friends into it whenever there was a fight to watch.

Fast forward a few years and Zuffa sold the UFC, all of my favs from UFC/Strikeforce are old or retired. The ufc puts on so many cards, i barely know any of the fighters. My hands used sweat when the main card started now its like ''who is the champion again?''

I feel my lost of interest is due to life changes personally but also how UFC adapted the Boxing model. There doesnt need to be 400 fighters on the roster, and their doesnt need to be 4 fights a month. I want to get back into it but man its hard.

Provide some insight if you faced this or are facing this.

2007 when I discovered it I was obsessed. 4 months later I was on a plane to Vegas to see Chuck Wandy. I was watcjing TUF re runs and and previous fights every night.

I didn't even know the fights were on last night till I saw something on Twitter. There are some fights I'm interested in but not in the slightest mad for it as I used to be. Also, can't go to a bar now to watch with friends being they're all closed so that's kinda fucked it up a bit.

Same here. I witnessed the fall of Pride and remember people referring to Anderson Silva as a "nobody" when he was about to fight for the title.
I literally went from watching all prelims, press conferences, countdowns, TUF's (well there's no TUF anymore but I guess Dana looking for a fight is a replacement) , knowing where each fighter trains, his training partners, his basic bio to fast-forwarding the whole card because I don't know most of the fighters nor do I care until the main event.
If the main fight becomes boring I fast-forward it too. I can barely name all the champs. I've even missed entire PPVs despite paying for them, something unimaginable back then.
It all went downhill fast after the Fertitas and Dana sold the company.
I miss Goldie dammit!

I don’t watch fights that end in a decision unless it’s big names or I hear that it was a barn burner. I guess that makes me a casual now.

It’s far better now old man.

I only watch the big fights but the quality of fighters and fighting is better in every measurable way than 10 years ago. More fighters means better competition and talents to choose from and the sport is growing.

It’s just that there’s so many orgs and events, it’s hard to keep up. And yeah it sucks when our old favorites decline and retire. But there’s tons of great fighters and great fights. Last night’s card was very low on name value, but was bananas from start to finish. UFC 254 is one of the most stacked cards ever. There are still fighters to get excited about.

I don't think that holds in MMA though, its a transitional sport that needs to attract talent. You could pay alot for say a world class kickboxer to switch or you could pay alot less for 10 very low level kickboxers, the latter would not improve the standard of the sport.

I was standing about 3 rows up from the top of in your avi pic BTW. ;)

I've lost major interest. I used to follow religiously. Once they went to ESPN I really stopped watching.

There are too many mediocre cards these days so I definitely don't follow it with the same passion as I used to. I do love the big cards though and I'm excited for Khabib vs Justin.

If you keep your mind open you'll find a balance.
You'll never be that crazy about fights again but occasional fights will still give you shivers.

Expecially if you try not to pay attention to the media and twitter feuds etc.
You'll mostly see the talent them and the fighters for what they are, and some champions and some matchups will still be so exciting you'll have to care.

Take Adesanya vs Costa. Both are annoying little shits, both are amazing talents and were undefeated when they fought, and Adesanya put a masterclass on establishing himslef as a generational talent of this era.

I just found out from you that there were fights on last night.

MMA was far more exciting on a whole around 10 years ago during the first boom. I don't even know how you could compare the two. Literally every PPV people would have watch parties....if your living in London back then its tough to explain since everything was at 4am and the peak wasn't as big there as it was in North America.

Start betting big money on it and you'll be back in.
