International Hamas launches surprise attack on Israel; Israel has declared a state of war. Vol. VII

Now you're just being silly.

It will take 36 hours, at least. ;)
Not sure he'll get this one done. The US doesn't have the same control over Russia that they do over Israel. Apparently Russia has already told him no for his deal and on top of that they don't seem to be showing Trump any respect. We know Trump wont like that. I could just as easily see Trump getting on TV and saying he offered Putin that best deal ever and he rejected it because he's lost his mind and must be stopped. Then just continuing the war. I'll be very interested to see what happens.

Hamas has reneged on parts of the deal

But "sigh, blame israel"?
Sigh. Iiterally stated the reasons as to why i dont trust netanyu and why i thought bibi would require more time..

Sigh.... personally i think netanyahu is trying to buy time to deal with bezal and gvir... he cant afford them to split.....

Im not blaming Israel.. im highly suspicous of bibi. You know... one of the very few people alive whos position in power is directly tied to the conflict.. and

nor am i the only one.... its a logical thought process... not rocket science .... nor am i blaming israel... i literally state what i think...

Stop taking everything as a attack on israel ... especially critisms of fucking bibi

Benjamin Netanyahu is busy blaming Hamas for the delay in an Israeli cabinet meeting to sign off on the ceasefire – but the real reason could be far closer to home.
Mr Netanyahu’s far right allies, who are propping up his government, have demanded the war in Gaza recommence in a little over a month once the hostages are freed.
National security minister Itamar Ben Gvir has come out against the deal. While finance minister Bezalel Smotrich has said he will quit if Israel doesn’t go back into Gaza after phase one of the ceasefire.
“The deal that will be presented to the government is both bad and dangerous for Israel’s national security,” Mr Smotrich said.
Both men are from far right parties who helped Mr Netanyahu form a minority government. The two are also, by far, the most hawkish members of the Israeli government. His government could fall if either quit.
However, the ceasefire could still pass as the opposition has pledged to support it. It has also said it will ensure Mr Netanyahu’s government can still function – for now.
That means Mr Netanyahu has a difficult choice: pass the ceasefire with opposition support but potentially see his government topple at some point. Or reject the ceasefire he approved to maintain his rule.

DOHA/CAIRO/JERUSALEM, Jan 16 (Reuters) - The Gaza Strip ceasefire should begin on Sunday as planned, despite the need for negotiators to tie up a "loose end" at the last minute, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday.
Israel delayed holding a cabinet meeting to ratify the ceasefire with Hamas, blaming the militant group for the hold-up, even as Israeli warplanes pounded Gaza in some of the most intense strikes for months. Palestinian authorities said at least 77 people were killed in the day since the truce was unveiled.

Hamas senior official Izzat el-Reshiq said the group remained committed to the ceasefire deal, which is scheduled to take effect from Sunday to halt 15 months of bloodshed.
"It's not exactly surprising that in a process and negotiation that has been this challenging and this fraught, you may get a loose end," Blinken told a press conference in Washington. "We're tying up that loose end as we speak."

A U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the sole remaining dispute was over the identities of some prisoners Hamas wanted released. Envoys of President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump were in Doha with Egyptian and Qatari mediators working to resolve it, the official said.
Inside Gaza, joy over the truce gave way to sorrow and anger at the intensified bombardment that followed the announcement.

Tamer Abu Shaaban's voice cracked as he stood over the tiny body of his young neice wrapped in a white shroud on the tile floor of a Gaza City morgue. She had been hit in the back with shrapnel from a missile as she played in the yard of a school where the family was sheltering, he said.
"Is this the truce they are talking about? What did this young girl, this child, do to deserve this? What did she do to deserve this? Is she fighting you, Israel?" he asked
.

Agreed. The only way to end the war quickly would be to force Ukraine to accept a Russian peace deal. And to do that, Trump would have to threaten to cut military aid to Ukraine. That would be a huge win for Russia, and I don't think Trump, whatever his personal affection for Putin, wants that. Much better to keep the war grinding on. It weakens Russia while also giving Trump leverage to force the EU to spend more on defence.

I think that Bibi will help Trump "pull a Reagan" with the hostages. When Reagan got sworn in the first time, the Ayatollah was releasing the U.S. hostages that very moment. The reason for that was, Reagan cut a deal with the Iranians to hold the hostages, so that Carter would look weak, and he'd win the election and if they played ball, he'd make sure they'd get all the parts they needed for their war with Iraq. All of this was illegal BTW, but I think that come the 20th of Jan, we'll see where the rubber meets the road with Bibi and Trump.

Highly possible. I think hes far more concerned about the possibility of losing power personally and a cease fire is the first step down that road.

Either gvir and bezal leave the goverment which fucks him. Or he caters to them and gives them and their toadies more power and civil authority over the westbank..

I know which id prefer to see .

I think that part of the deal " pulling the reagan " has already been sorted. Cease fire starts the 19th iirc. Trump pres the 20th.

Cleverly timed so the hostages will be released the day before. So he can claim unlike reagan they were released beforehand.

But realistically it will be part of the same news cycle as his inaugeration.

If were talking Trump like(although honestly he's really just a more open version of what exists anyway) immoral international prestige games though I think Ukraine looks like its rather different to say Afganistan of Vietnam, in those situations the superpower was essentially locked in an unwinnable guerrilla war. Ukraine is militarily much stronger than either of them and is inflicting a heavy cost on the Russians but it does increasingly look like Putin is going to be able to hold a large part of the east of the country which in those terms is going to be "win" for him and "loss" for Trump.

Honestly I suspect part of the reason the Israeli's agreed to this deal is that parts of there establishment are beginning to realise they were locked in an mini Afghanistan/Vietnam, the idea they could force most of the Gazan population out simply didnt happen.

Sigh.

I dont care about “Bibi”.

If the Palestinians have welched on the deal at the 11th hour, that’s where we should be directing our frustrations.

Sigh.

I know you dont care about bibi. Most israelis dont trust him nor his goverment. But hey who cares about that.

I know your opinions about the entire thing. You can have yours and ill have mine thanks.

What we know

  • Israel's Cabinet will vote on the ceasefire and hostage release deal with Hamas after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said early Friday that his negotiating team had reached agreements on the hostage deal.
  • Israel had delayed the vote, blaming Hamas for creating a “last-minute crisis” without providing details.
  • Hamas said it was “committed” to the ceasefire agreement, which was announced by the mediators and could go into effect Sunday.
  • Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a news briefing today that he remains confident the deal will be implemented as planned.
  • The highly anticipated deal, which would begin with a six-week truce, could end 15 months of fighting in the Gaza Strip.
  • The first phase of the hard-won agreement would free 33 hostages held in Gaza, starting with two Americans. It would also free Palestinians held in Israeli jails.
  • At least 80 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since the announcement, Gaza’s Civil Defense said.

As i said most israelies dont trust bibi....

if you wish to believe him go for it. I really dont care, nor would i attempt to convince you to not. Neither of us know the truth.

Its not like bibis office would ever lie to the world media and leaders...... and there was clearly no reason for him to try unify his goverment before allowing it the cabinet to decide.

I’ve been doing this for a long time,” Mr Biden said at the White House late on Wednesday.

“I never really thought that I would see – have confirmed – pictures of terrorists beheading babies.”

A White House spokesperson later clarified that US officials had not confirmed such reports independently. The president had based his comments on the claims from Mr Netanyahu’s spokesman, the spokesperson said.

You throw a bias accusation around.

Hamas go back on the deal at the 11th hour and your first thought is about an Israeli. You might want to examine your own biases too.

I think it's pretty obvious. There is massive popular support in Israel for a ceasefire but Netanyahu has had just as much incentive to prolong the conflict up to now. That seems to be changing, and it seems clear to me Putin will take a ceasefire with Ukraine if Russia gets to keep the Ukrainian territory they currently occupy. I see a kind of alliance has formed among the three, Bibi, Putin, and Trump. They appear to be committed to doing what they can to help keep each other out of prison, and both Putin and Bibi can easily manipulate Trump by helping to make him look good.

It's interesting how such crooks became their nations' leaders by embracing the far right. Ditto Modi and Erdogan (IMHO).

There has been credible reporting of dissent within the Knesset over accepting the ceasefire. Any ceasefire agreement must pass a vote by the Israeli legislature. Two far-right party leaders have threatened to bring down Netanyahu's government through a vote of no confidence if he tries to bring it to a vote. To save face, Bibi is blaming new uncertainty about the ceasefire on Hamas.

You'll have a hard time convincing me otherwise without good evidence for Netanyahu's accusations of fuckery by Hamas here.

Worth noting that support for a "ceasefire" is in reality support for a "hostage deal" and not stopping the war against Hamas.

After Israel gets back as many hostages as it is able via diplomatic means, there is a very high probability that the war resumes - and with Trump's support.

Indeed, I expect Netanyahu to drag his feet and re-engage at the first excuse. I think it's the only thing keeping him in power.

The first "excuse" likely being an act of aggression by Palestinians such as launching rockets into Israel

Such an act of war will be a valid reason and not an excuse

It's funny how you edit my posts and toss out meaningless one-liners in response to those posts and ignore this one entirely,
