International Hamas launches surprise attack on Israel; Israel has declared a state of war. Vol. VII

Tens of thousands of innocent civilians are dead and an urban area of 2 million people has been effectively destroyed plus indeed a large number of the hostages have died so this isn't some happily ever after.

Again I think this is a point were a world view which is dominated by partisan thinking as a moral guide surely cannot avoid some self questioning?

I truly, truly, hope you're right.

Itd be great if we veered away from the two team shite. Its spread so far. We never did the left right game when i grew up in aus. Now its a extremely common lable people apply to themselves and others.

Unfortunately most people dont question their own logic and beliefs remotely close to as much as we question others.

I include myself in this.

Sadly i think many people want to be right more than the right thing happening.

On topic.

Now, Biden was quick to point out that this was a bipartisan deal. Effectively Brett McGurk, who has been Biden’s main man in the Middle East for a number of years now, worked on all the details. But certainly, the Trump team were involved. They were saying they wanted to get this done before inauguration day, to clear it off the table for the incoming president. Trump did say in the last week that if there wasn’t a deal by his inuaguration, then there will be hell to pay.

Honestly i think both sides are to blame for the length it went on.

Yet in the same both sides deserve credit for the cease fire...

Bottomline its been a shit show and nobodys hands are clean imo.

Im honestly surprised that amount of hostages temain alive / accessible . Ive been wrong about that for quite some time.

Hopefully israel gets put of war footing and n bibi and bezal can be ousted democratically and quickly ditto gvir.

On Sunday, Smotrich said his party “will not be part of” the hostage-ceasefire deal, which he called a “catastrophe for Israel’s national security,” but did not elaborate.
Smotrich’s statement came a day after Ben Gvir called on him to join him in rejecting the deal and bolting the government if it goes through.

The government will have a majority to approve the ceasefire deal even if Smotrich and Ben Gvir back out, but Netanyahu is reportedly seeking the broadest possible support for the agreement. Were both the far-right parties to bolt his coalition, however, it would lose its Knesset majority

Oh pleasant news . They are threatening to leave the goverment if it goes through which fucks netanyhu's power anyway..

But someone really shpuld keep a eye on what those fuckers are upto and remove them and their toadies from civil admin roles as well.

Or... it goes a far worse way and netanyu gives them more power to fuck over the west bank...

The Kan public broadcaster reported that Netanyahu has offered Smotrich and Ben Gvir “gains for the right” in return for them remaining in the government.

Those gains would mean settlement construction in the West Bank and boosted security along the seamline between that territory and Israel. According to the report, Smotrich and Ben Gvir would both be able to claim credit for those developments, making the offer attractive to Ben Gvir, who would otherwise see Smotrich take all the honors.

Guess we'll see..

I truly, truly, hope you're right.

Come on you've gaslighted everyone that Biden and Kamala were the best things ever for a Palestinian state while they were allowing thousands of innocent civilians to get massacred.

You even predicted apocalypse when trump was elected and went on saying "you WANTED IT now look at SCORCHED EARTH"

While we all told you that unlike Biden who is a carpet on which Bibi puts his feet, Trump at least in unpredictable.

He could favor Bibi yes, or he could put him in his place also. He's a deal maker that always looks his best interest and his interests only, negotiates strong and never forgets a grudge (newsflash he hates Bibi as all world leaders).

@HereticBD despite being a bloodthirsty "might makes right against Arabs" type, was a 100% right about you when he said you'd change your tune quick if Trump was elected.

Why isn't this guy in prison instead of being one of the most powerful person in the country and the finance minister ?

As I'v said before as well I think the the "liberal" establishment is really what's allowed the Israeli's to behave the way they have, its much more able to suppress viewpoints generally critical of such actions and as you say has also pushed "well the other side is worse" when it has made sure that's the only alternative.

I mean really when you've reached the point were GW Bush and Dick Cheney are backing the mainstream Dems isnt it time to take a hard look at them and wonder? "Are we the Baddies?"

I would argue as well even the mantra that centralists are "pragmatic and sensible" really does not bare out, the centralist neoconservative ideology is I think VERY simplified black and white, it depends on the endless claim "well you support Hamas then?" if Israeli actions are questioned. Generally its the ideology of LACK of compromise, genuine progressives have always been more willing to compromise on this and other issues if its for the greater good and the main roadblock they've hit is that centralist liberals are simply not willing to do the same, they do not represent comprimise they represent capitulation.

Same reason we in australia have politicians i believe should be jailed imo

Ditto most countries

Blinken says that, "We assess that Hamas has recruited almost as many new militants, as it has lost. That is a recipe for an enduring insurgency and perpetual war."

WE TOLD YOU DUMB FUCKS.

How many motherfuckers in this thread made dumbass comparisons to WWII, Japan, Germany and shit. History didn't begin October 7th and this wasn't WWII with industrialized nations nor the same situation at all.

Deviant-e the dumb fuck back with his every 20 page drive by comment before slinking off under his rock again

Let's all point and laugh like last time, and last last time, and last last last time...

The senior US official was asked about Blinken’s comments during a briefing with reporters following the announcement of a Gaza hostage deal.

“I heard that, but Hamas is a significantly degraded military organization,” the official responds. “Israeli forces can go anywhere in Gaza they want. Hamas leaders are living almost entirely underground and trying to take refuge in civilian structures.”

“They really have no free-standing brigades or military organization anymore,” he says of Hamas.

“Have they recruited poor Gazans who are living in hell on earth? Yes, but that is a far cry from an organization that invaded Israel with military formations with thousands of organized fighters on October 7. Its ability to do that I really believe has been forever foreclosed,” the senior US official states.
Oops, deviant-e, despite only showing up for one comment every 20 pages or so, has managed to make an absolutely ginormous rip roaring cunt of himself here.

Maybe time to take his own advice and "SHUT! THE! FUCK! UP!"

How embarrassing for him :D

right. for now. they will eventually secure weapons from syria, lebanon, iran, etc. and continue training. as long as you continue to massacre 100,000 people a generation, you will birth another generation of violent resistance fighters. that's just how this shit goes. we've learned this over and over since the 1970's.
If the next generation of Palestinians don't attempt a disgusting genocide in Israel full of medieval raping, butchering and pillaging they should get on better than this past one

We can but hope they decide to join civilisation and we won't need to worry about such future horrific and barbaric acts.

Great news on the ceasefire, but I won't hold much hope that Hamas will stop firing rockets into Israel which will bring retaliation.

why don't you keep telling them that's what they SHOULD do, since you truly believe that they should continue to go down that path instead of actually denouncing terror and trying a different tact.................

Sigh.... personally i think netanyahu is trying to buy time to deal with bezal and gvir... he cant afford them to split.....

A vote on the long-awaited Israel and Hamas peace deal by the Israeli cabinet has been delayed with Benjamin Netanyahu accusing Hamas of trying to “extort last minute concessions”.

The cabinet had been expected to meet around 11am local time to ratify the deal, which was announced on Wednesday night.

“Hamas has reneged on parts of the agreement reached with the mediators and Israel in an effort to extort last-minute concessions”, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement, adding the situation created a “last minute crisis”.

Hamas has issued a response through Reuters and Palestinian media rejecting the claim.

In a statement the group said: “Hamas is committed to the ceasefire agreement announced by the mediators.”

A ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas is expected to come into force on Sunday.

There will be an initial truce last six-weeks but for now the fighting continues.

And sadly i expected this side off it.

Air strikes in Gaza crush joy of ceasefire deal
After news of a ceasefire agreement sparked mass rejoicing in Gaza, residents woke up Thursday to columns of smoke, rubble and more deaths following new Israeli air strikes.
“We were waiting for the truce and were happy. It was the happiest night since October 7,” said Gaza resident Saeed Alloush, referring to the Hamas attack on Israel that sparked the war in 2023.
“Suddenly… we received the news of the martyrdom of 40 people,” including his uncle, Alloush said.
“The whole area’s joy turned to sadness, as if an earthquake struck.” The latest strikes came after Qatar and the United States announced a fragile ceasefire deal that should take effect on Sunday

Your Australian politicians parade with maps of New Zealand belonging to Australia and say the war must continue after 100k's of civilians have been murdered?

Never heard of that.

Thats not a crime mate .... you cant jail someone for dumb opinions....

pin a actual crime to him and i will gladly gladly join you in saying not only shpuld he be removed from political power and civil but should be jailed as well

Palestine started this conflict with genocide. I assume he means the Palestinians
That's what i mean, Hamas started this, and clearly have genocidal intentions, but many have said the IDF response is genocidal.

I had to work a Palestine/Israel protest (actually several) where both sides call each other Nazis. Your average un/under informed person would have no idea what to make of it.
