Dead and wounded is not a useful metric. Sure it shows the overall destruction and even relative losses but it fails to show why. This is an asymmetric war and Hamas are hiding among civilians. Hamas are committing war crimes in the process to cause these civilian losses.

International law allows for resisting an occupying force. But even if we dismiss this, Israel has presented very little evidence of Hamas hiding from many of their war crimes attacks e.g. 2k pounds dumb bombs on UN schools and hospitals, and destroying infrastructure that has created starvation and disease like polio.
