Hafthor Bjornsson - ‘I could’ve crushed McGregor in sparring session’

You can quit with the silly alpha/beta fantasy

I shall do no such thing, young man.

As I said in an earlier post, this whole discussion is silly so I'm just playing along.

But for real bro, there is such a thing as Alpha males/Beta males anthropologically; Bjornsson is a true Alpha male - they are characterised by extreme aggression and competitiveness, and often a natural gift for fighting.

Coupled with his insane physical gifts, it would be a nightmare for Conor in a fight.

Just shooting the breeze brah

Can all you guys who swear size and strength are so irrelevant that "Mighty Mouse could beat Hafthor with 3 legkicks" please go challenge some giants to straight up fights, and tape it for us?

You know, so we can learn how right you are. Not to like, laugh at you getting the shit beat out of you or anything. Please... help us learn.

Most average dudes are not world champion fighters....

Really? I'd favor Conor more in a UFC 1 style fight than in a modern MMA fight, though I think Conor loses both. In a modern MMA fight Hafthor can lay on top of Conor for 3/5 rounds and win a UD based on control. In a UFC 1 style fight Hafthor HAS to finish Conor before he gasses, and based on his boxing video he'll gas quickly since he's 400 pounds and muscular. Conor literally has to survive and then can possibly sub his way to victory.
I agree that Hafthor will gas out quickly, I mainly said no time limit because it would remove the possibility of winning any kind of decision.

In a modern MMA bout Hafthor would have to get a hold of Conor and hold him down for 2 rounds, or 3 in a 5 rounder. I think that's unlikely to happen; more likely Hafthor tries to run him down and Conor just retreats until Hafthor gets tired. From there he'll sissy kick Hafthor from the outside to score points and win a decision.

In a no time limit fight, however, Conor would have to finish Hafthor. That involves either getting in submission range or TKOing him, and both would require getting close enough for Hafthor to put his hands on you. I think even a gassed Hafthor can break Conor in half if he gets a hold of him.

>no time limit

The mountain gassed hard after two minutes of boxercising some chump nowhere near Conors skill

No matter the adrenaline of a life and death situation, it won't give you infinite cardio. As a matter of fact, one could expect less cardio due to the adrenaline dump.
No time limit means Conor can't win a decision, and I don't think Conor can finish even a gassed opponent who is 4x his size and Strength.

I also believe even a gassed Hafthor could badly hurt Conor if he get his hands on him, and Conor would have to get close enough to risk that if he wanted to finish the fight.

Woeful actor though.
This guy was the best Mountain, Conan Stephens.
At least they have The Mountain dead and behind a mask now.

This should make it easy. Stack plates on the bar until you have 400#. get 2 really strong guys to lower the bar on you (bench or standing) and have them let go. Report back on how easy it was to get away from 400#s.
yeah on a floor press position i could easily wiggle out

I guess it boils down to whether you believe Conor could control a highly gassed Hafthor. History favors your POV since in fights like Nog/Sapp and Royce/ Kimo the much bigger man was still a big threat when gassed. I'm basing my POV from the video of Hafthor boxing where he looks out of it after a minute. Sapp had weirdly amazing cardio for a man that size (could have been on things like EPO). Also, Sapp had some training (I THINK with Maurice Smith and Bas Rutten) which would've helped his cardio and fight knowledge, while current Hafthor has zero.

I personally think Conor loses to Hafthor horribly because grappling is not his strength and he has shit cardio himself, but a guy like Ferguson could sub a gassed Hafthor.

So 60 seconds of walking after Conor would render the Mountain completely helpless? Are you serious?
It SIGNIFICANTLY reduces a person that larges power. It's not simple "walking"

I just seriously can't believe there are people who truly believe a LW MMA fighter who struggled with Mendez strength beats a 6'9 400 pound man who can deadlift near 1000 pounds. There is no doubt that technique/skill over come size/strength. But the delusion about how much it can overcome is on par with the belief that Bruce Lee could have beaten any man on the planet in a fight. Conor seriously can't even hurt the Mountain, the guy is too big and too strong. It would take HW/LHW MMA fighter or Manhoef to bring down the mountain.

People get too carried away with the idea training negates a size difference. It DOES, but only to a normal level. Training may get you through a fight with a guy say 30/40% bigger and stronger than you. It doesn't however negate a size difference of over a foot in height and 200lbs of weight. In the UFC, I think only the biggest MWs and up would have a chance against Hafthor in a standard MMA fight- most LHWs and virtually all HWs would murder him. I think anyone that has poor striking and focuses primarily on grappling would have a miserable time, because he's simply far stronger than a normal human being. I think anyone at WW or below would get soundly beaten, regardless of discipline.

I saw some people mentioning Pudz- firstly, he's nowhere near the size of Hafthor though he is every bit as strong- but size matters more than strength, here. If you can't reach their chin without jumping it's going to be a tough fight. And secondly, he was fighting other HWs- not LWs. He would most likely break any LW in half too.

This is the real world, not the movies. McGregor is a great fighter but he never beats that kind of size difference.

Serious question, not trying to get personal here. Have you ever fought or competed in striking or grappling competitions?

I could have crushed Mike Tyson when I saw him this one time.

He is fortunate I chose not to.

Bjornsson would eventually grab him, but not get anywhere. He’d land some clubbing shots, try to force a sub, but nothing would stick.

He’d eventually gas and McGregor would get a referee stoppage on a defenseless Bjornsson.
