Had a waiter confront me outside over a tip

Went to a restaurant with a few of my friends last night, just to grab a few drinks and appetizers, a place called BJ's.

We end up staying for about 4 hours, from about 6-10, and for the 3 of us our total ended up being almost $200 (mainly alcohol).

We usually try and go out once a month and every month it's someone else's turn to cover the bill, and this time it was my turn.

So, figuring that even tho it was $200, I figured it's not that fucking hard to bring out 3 damn drinks at a time and we only had 2 small appetizers. I only had $5 cash on me and decided that would suffice considering it was just mainly alcohol purchased.

So after I pay with my card, I leave the $5 on the table, we walk out and sit on the bench while my friends smokes a cigarette and we continue to catch up. The waiter comes out side a minute later in a frenzy, screaming about this and that and how I'm a cheap fuck and how I shouldn't go out to eat if I can't afford to tip and shoves me to the ground.

He ends up saying "$5 on a $200 bill is unacceptable and I should go fuck myself", and then he goes back inside. My friends ask if $5 is really all I left? And I said yes, and they said why didn't you leave a tip on the receipt with your card? So I guess they took his side in the matter and they talked me out of going inside the restaurant and complaining.

How much do you goes tip for drinks? Was I in the wrong?

Cliffs : Went out with friends
Drank a lot
Tipped $5 on $200 bill because mainly alcohol
Waiter tries to fight me outside
Waiter was out of line and you sound poor. You're taking up space for 4 hours that could be used for people that actually tip. Instead he's stuck serving your cheap ass drinks for 4 hours. Hell, id be pissed too. Don't go out if you can't afford to tip.

The world in which you go see this server for fucking drinks. Your cheap ass should have told your friends that you're all just gonna grab some tall cans and chill on your porch and YOU can play bartender for them. You cheap fuck.

Another server, folks. This is the type of mind we are dealing with here. "Go see this server for drinks". Whatever that means? A server's mind is truly fascinating, it's not hard to see why they find very limited success in other endeavors. When 85% of your brain power is dedicated to pure panhandling what is really left?

As I've stated numerous times - I'd be more than willing to pay 4-5x menu prices if it meant servants, I mean panhandlers, I mean servers received no tips at all (preferable if it meant there were no pan handlers, I mean servers at all).

I've tipped far more than you for far more expensive meals/drinks. We don't operate on the same levels.

I'm going to keep going out even if I can't afford to tip.

I had the money to tip, if I wanted to use my card to tip, but I don't do that anymore, as I've said about 50 times itt now.

Go to page 9 and see this Gumby guy, literally admits to being a server and says he has the right to shit in your food if you tip poorly.

Yeah man, you're a giant asshole for that tip. You know how many other good tipping customers he missed out on because you were there taking up that table for 4 hours? 5 dollars is incredibly small for a 200 dollar bill and I'm happy your friends shamed you.

I mean goddamn, you should be embarrassed.

This is what the no tip douches don't understand. The waiter is wasting his time on you when he could be serving customers who actually appreciate it.

It's supposed to be a capitalist society. So, you get what you pay for. This policy of tipping AFTER means everyone gets the same level of service because the waiter doesn't know who the good and bad customers are yet. That's socialist shit.

This is why it's good to have a local bar/restaurant that's your place. So you can establish a kind of good tipper credit. My girl and I have that at a local place. The staff know us and know a good tip is incoming so they prioritize us over the other customers.

If you're new to a place, a good practice is to tip on each round of drinks so they know right off the bat you are a VIP and nota broke loser like @ISIS in blackface.

Well, you're a shitty person and don't be surprised if more people react this way towards you. You deserve it.

Only tip $5 no matter what. Degenerate panhandling fkrs.

Could just have their employer pay them more or get a new job.

Tipping isn't mandatory, and it never will be, and people need to BTFO

It's not mandatory, but it's how people like me ensure we get preferential treatment over peasants like you. That's capitalism at it's finest, scum.

Also, you'd be bitching if your $6 beers were $12 to cover the wage increase. Stay home and drink peasant beer in a dark room because you can't pay your electric bill.

I'm sure the proprietor is ok with a $200 bill for marked up alcohol over the time period.

Lol @ a proprietor giving a shit about an extra $10 in some grubby server's hands when he just sold $200 in alcohol to a group of patrons.

"Hell I'd be pissed to" - because you're a server. Sorry, but just because you can open up a drink doesn't entitle you to someone else's income. I don't think the patron signed on to be your financial caretaker when he sat down for a few drinks. Go out on the street and panhandle like the rest of the homeless people if you are trying to demand money. Seems to be a servant's true calling.

Shut the hell up you bitch.

Lol @ preferential treatment at a fkin BJ's.

The mind of the proletarian never ceases to amaze me.

"Hey I got my drink 45 seconds before you did, that extra $3.25 I left got me preferential treatment" *Thumbs nose*.

I guess if that's the world you come from it's no surprise you take what you can get, however limited it is.

Quiet, serf. You've had your say, now return to toiling in the fields. Your betters will continue this thread henceforth.

I'll put it to you this way, I've never had a waiter push me to the ground. You have. So, which person in this story is more likely scum? The guy sitting in the gutter with a waiter standing over him, or the guy getting into his truck that the well-tipped and appreciative valet brought to him?

With your tip and their standard flat wage of $4 an hour. That waiter made $5.25 per hour from your table.

If a servant's, I mean server's combined tips+wages for the year is less than minimum wage then their employer legally bound to make up for the difference.

So again, why should we give a shit that he made $5.25 per hour? Sounds like reasonable compensation for literally opening bottles lmao.

lol'ing hard @ this ridiculous notion "don't go out to eat if you can't afford to tip"

if you can afford to pay for the meal, you can afford to go out to eat. it's that simple

if the bill is $35.57, and i scrounge my pockets for a twenty, a ten, and a five, and go to my car to get 57 cents out the ash tray, then i absolutely can afford to eat out. i'm paying exactly what is required of me
