Had a waiter confront me outside over a tip

Say he does make 3 dollars an hour, TS tips 5, even if he only had one other table(which he most certainly had more) and they also tipped 5 dollars, thats 13 an hour for a job a god damn semi well trained monkey can do. Fuck him

He said they were there 4 hours, not one.

Went to a restaurant with a few of my friends last night, just to grab a few drinks and appetizers, a place called BJ's.

We end up staying for about 4 hours, from about 6-10, and for the 3 of us our total ended up being almost $200 (mainly alcohol).

We usually try and go out once a month and every month it's someone else's turn to cover the bill, and this time it was my turn.

So, figuring that even tho it was $200, I figured it's not that fucking hard to bring out 3 damn drinks at a time and we only had 2 small appetizers. I only had $5 cash on me and decided that would suffice considering it was just mainly alcohol purchased.

So after I pay with my card, I leave the $5 on the table, we walk out and sit on the bench while my friends smokes a cigarette and we continue to catch up. The waiter comes out side a minute later in a frenzy, screaming about this and that and how I'm a cheap fuck and how I shouldn't go out to eat if I can't afford to tip and shoves me to the ground.

He ends up saying "$5 on a $200 bill is unacceptable and I should go fuck myself", and then he goes back inside. My friends ask if $5 is really all I left? And I said yes, and they said why didn't you leave a tip on the receipt with your card? So I guess they took his side in the matter and they talked me out of going inside the restaurant and complaining.

How much do you goes tip for drinks? Was I in the wrong?

Cliffs : Went out with friends
Drank a lot
Tipped $5 on $200 bill because mainly alcohol
Waiter tries to fight me outside

$1 per drink is my rule.
It is utter bullshit to pay a $20 tip if you order five $20 drinks.

How many drinks were ordered in total ?

Probably would have been less insulting to leave no tip at all. Giving just 5 dollars is the dick move.

tbh the 4 hour thing is the only reason i side with the server

he took a table in the servers section for 4 hours that couldve served 5+ groups that actually tip. the server probably had his shift end too, but stuck around until they left

I've tipped high before, at lower tier restaurants I tend to tip more, if I got somewhere such as Chili's/Applebees I tend to tip 30-35%, but I usually don't drink much alcohol, I'm eating.

The only reason I only tipped $5, besides the fact I only had $5 on me, is that I don't think it's that hard to bring a table drinks, especially heavily over priced drinks.

I would say there was 15 drinks total, and then plus the appetizers, I didn't really keep count tho.

If I'm at a bar I usually tip $1 for every other drink, that usually still comes out to 20% or higher

its true though. stop trying to deny reality

aka being rational and not emotional?
reality
in america servers are legally allowed to be paid below minimum wage
also reality
it is considered the decent thing to do by society at large to tip your waiter a minimum of 15%
not reality
it is considered the decent thing to do to leave a 5$ tip on a 200$ tab

lmfao @ playing the ignorance card on tipping in America. Are you from here? Yes. So what the fuck are you doing acting like you don't know that servers rely on tips to get paid? Go out with a large party mr big baller to one of your "better places", rack up a 1000$ bill and leave no tip. Be sure to let your entire party know what you tipped and record their reactions. Im 100% sure all of them will call you the fuck out just like TS got put in his place by his own friends.

"Rely" is relative. There are people in the world who can get by on $3 a day much less $3/hour.

Sorry, but it's not my job to give a shit about some grubby tax cheat's income. Lol'ing hard @ $1000 bill. The bills I "rack up" are for far more and are accompanied by auto gratuity. I'm sorry I don't have to get my tip calculator out in order to leave $5.88 (exactly 22%) on my bill like you do.

So far this thread has set the record for number of people lol'ing @ _____.

several places I have been will automatically add a tip if the party is a certain size or if the bill reaches a certain amount. I absolutely hate how the service industry is set up in the states but since it is set up that way I accept it and tip appropriately.

Hmmm - I think in this case you should have given the waiter $17. That's one dollar per drink, and two apps.

I don't think you needed to give 18%/$36, but $5 was hella low.

I agree. I think its immoral and needs to be changed. That's a separate debate. Leaving a waiter a shitty tip to protest the treatment of service industry workers is a moronic cop out.

More obfuscating with rhetoric. You can wordplay all you want to justify and rationalize being a shitty person, but in the end, you're still a shitty person to the rest of us. Working as a waiter isn't a misfortune. Most of them are young people putting themselves through college dick head.

Come on bro. The troll threads are much more fun if you can keep the story consistent.
Was a typo.

What I was trying to say is that I don't like leaving any amount of money under the "Tip" line, I even take a pic of the receipt.

I've went out before and left "10.00" under the tip line and have gone home and had $100 withdrawn from my account.

You sound like a server lmao

youre confusing unbiased rationality with delusion. when in reality, you're the one thinking with your emotions.
you're upset that others aren't burdened with the misfortune of empathy, like yourself.
