Trolling is supposed to mess with people who themselves are jerks, or in some way make fun of power.

Like trolling religious fundies or racists, or holier than thou religious or political leaders.

This is not good trolling. This is just messing with somebody from the safety of distance.

I mean I prank called my friends when I was around 15 and 16, but that shit got old real fast. I can't imagine any mature person doing that shit, let alone 8 years. The so called pranks and trolling these days are mostly people being disruptive assholes.
 
The word "trolling" has lost pretty much all its meaning on this site. Every fucking idiot thinks they're a "troll"
 
Did the motel owner ever find out who this guy is? If not then maybe we should. Or at least sic the reddit detectives on him.

I'm sure this has to be illegal. We can get this douche arrested.

In the meantime, if he gets enough thumbs down, doesn't YouTube remove the vid?

It pisses me of that he's actively trying to make this go viral.

This is the stupidest cultural artifact of any time, the tradition of being an inflammatory asshole and then recording it. And then profiting from the recordings.

When pranks are done in good humour and with some sense of cleverness and even respect, they are funny but this kind of shit is not really the same thing at all as pranking, it's more just being a complete dick.

Concur. This is just awful. I mean here a guy is just trying to make a living, and he is basically stalked and tormented for the better part of a decade.

It would be interesting to see how the legal system would deal with this douchebag. I'm sure it could be interpreted that is he breaking some law, but probably not enough to get into any serious trouble. I wish a jury could sentence him to 8 years of cleaning toilets at this place.

I'll tell you this though, If the hotel owner went off the deep end and murdered this dude, and I was on the jury, he would be walking out of the courtroom with a dim cap defense.

In a lot of states prank calls are legally considered harassment or even stalking; I would think the extent of this would get action from law enforcement.
