Movies Guy Pearce Says He Never Acted in Chris Nolan Films After ‘Memento’ Because a Warner Bros. Exec Disliked His Acting

How good an actor is Guy Pearce?

He was awesome in Memento. The execs at WB probably didn't like being rejected by Guy at the Diddy parties
Something like that.

This quote

‘I don’t get Guy Pearce. I’m never going to get Guy Pearce. I’m never going to employ Guy Pearce.’

just screams

'a starlet I was trying to bang ran off with him and now I refuse to employ this guy'.

He is fine, he never bothered me at all, i always thought he is fine and watchable.

This is how I feel. He isn't blowing me away with his acting but I don't think there is anything wrong with it either. I'm more surprised that Nolan doesn't have enough power to tell that exec to fuck off that's who I want.

A good actor although never yet reached the artistic heights of Neighbours during his movie career.
They never do.

Margot Robbie
Russell Crowe
Chris Hemsworth
Guy Pearce

Lots of Australian actors giving up their artistic integrity in neighbours for those big bucks.

I kind of get it. It isn't that Guy is a bad actor. I think he is good but in today's landscape, being an actor also means being someone who can promote a film on the circuit. Guy Pearce has never been that super charismatic guy who can go on Conan or SNL and kill it. I think there are a lot of actors who are very talented but just can't push the needle on ticket sales with promotion or their performance. I don't think Hollywood acting has much to do with acting. Your CEO's just know that there are certain actors that if I cast them, it probably means $10+ million more in ticket sales. Guy isn't that.

Been a fan since The Proposition
Underrated and forgotten film. Great performance and the dude who played his brother. I don’t remember many lines from films but I was diagnosed with colitis at the time and remember the line “ oh not the gut, Charlie”

@Gio better vote me best stories next year damn it !

You’re applying today’s acumen but wasn’t the case when he was on the rise. How many actors his age are you familiar with that have been on SNL?

One of the Top5 most underrated actors in the industry, and unfortunately the boxoffice bomb that was The Time Machine stuck to him like glue for far too long.

Hollywood studio execs have a habit of giving blame to the wrong aspect of a film that supposedly caused it to fail.

And I don't know how common of an opinion this is... but Iron Man 3 was a far-above-average MCU movie (for the ones with a singular main character) and Guy Pierce outshined Robert Downey Jr.

Wouldn't be surprised if that is another movie that didn't make the money studio execs predicted... so they blamed Guy Pierce.

Guy Pierce has never been an A lister. I think he is a better actor than a lot of A listers but hollywood isn't really about acting. Hollywood is about making money. There are plenty of bad actors that have great box office numbers.

I'd say he is a 7 as an actor
well above average but not one of the greats. elevated pretty much everything he is in and can hang with the big dogs but packs that spark to be one of them.

it's a shame he got blackballed because he gave an exec blueballs

he probably would have been better than some of the other actors in Nolans subsequent films

I agree with the sentiment he is around the 7 range, I think he can dip into the sixes sometimes because he doesn’t quite have the flexibility and emotional depth which goes off a wooden vibe, that’s why as a Batman or a mean cowboy or depressed man on a personal quest he can do very well, but then again maybe I don’t really get the guy
