At this point if he won the lhw title he could never outrun those losses to DC, JJ, and Rumble. Even if he became a dominant champ everyone would just diminish this because he came up the shortest of the LHW big 4 when the competition was undoubtedly stronger.

HW would be a chance for him to leave a concrete legacy if he can win the belt. And as long as he avoids Blaydes, DC, and Black Beast, he surely has a shot IMO.

Thizzles?

Semmy 2.0, just w/o the athleticism.

*He's gonna spend a lot of time on his back @ HW*

He wouldn't break top 5 at HW. Stipe and Francis would murder him. Gus should be happy he has a chance to be a paper champ at 205.

You mean a guy that is about to retire, a dude facing a four years suspension and someone that already retired? If anything, these obstacles are moving out of Gus's way.

Agreed. HW is relatively deep right now, and LHW is relatively shallow compared to recent history.

Gus is a great fighter. He just has not been able to put it all together to finish a fight off. Too bad.

There are many tough fights for him between ranks 15-5

Tell that to Glover.
I meant against an actual champion clearly. Lost to Jones. Lost to DC. Lost to Anthony Jonson. Sure he can beat some random guys in the top 10. But he's not Champion material

Ngannou is like a bigger stronger taller version of rumble. That would be horrific for Gus.

An aging, slow striker who can't strike with no more chin

There is always an excuse….

Fedor beat cans.

So did Anderson.

Jones beat out of prime fighters and MWs.

Etc.

Gus is still fighting ?!?

As long as Gus doesn't try to gain too much weight, he will be able to dance circles around most HW's and box them up.

I'm not sure at what the durability scaling is between LHW and HW, but his power should be at least slightly less effective.

Risk of KO is big at HW, but he shouldn't be there to be hit as much.

His lack of power means most guys are going to be able to have lots of time to land 1 punch against him. He gets Rumbled by everyone in the HW top 10

I'm a big Gus fan and think he would certainly be top 10 at HW..but near the bottom. He wouldn't ever be in title contention like he is at LHW. So it's not hard to see why he stays there.

What if he beats DC for the lhw title and then beats Jones when, not if, but when he comes back?? Jones being involved in a PED scandal works against him, any fighter that he beat that he would lose in a rematch to brings up the PEDs. MMA fans love to call fighters out for performance enhancements, I mean can you imagine if Gus beats jones how many would say the first fight Jones was on Ped's. I don't know if DC comes back but beating Jones and defending the title a few times would put him up there.

Yeah but.... in this case it's significant. That fight was much more about how bad Glover looked than Gus looking good imo.
