Gus offering to step up against Cormier

Gus says he will fight Cormier at catch weight.

That is as good replacement as they will get! But it is a high risk fight for both Gus and Cornier. Gus can't really afford more losses, and Cormier gets a tricky opponent on short notice.

I think the question is if the UFC will accept the risk for Gus. If he gets a beating (win or loose) he is out of his planned September fight. If he looses his career will take a downturn which I'm not sure Gus can afford.

It's four days out. This is about as short-notice as it can possibly get. Very little chance they could get anyone else in the LHW/HW divisions to fight DC.

I thought this too, but if Gus loses, maybe the UFC would be reluctant to book DC vs Gus 3 in the future.

He's only 2 fights away from a title shot as it is, maybe they're worried about that?
