Gunnar Nelson exposed?

just like hendricks got exposed by story. that guy will never amount to anything lol

Kind of different though, because Story literally played Nelson's game all night and still won. Nelson's "elusive, finesse striking" lost a distance-striking match against a guy who is considered a brawler. Nelson needs to drop to 155 and try to use his grappling.

Yeah like how that bum Hendricks got derailed.....

Gunnar cuts around 4-5 pounds to make 170. He is best served to move down to 155. He will struggle against the big WW's up the ladder (i.e. Woodley and others).

Well this fight was almost all striking and he got beaten up there by a shorter guy with a shorter reach.

His striking isn't too good, he bounces around with his hands down and throws a right straight. After the first few rights Story recognized that and evaded most of them. If his chin wasn't so amazing Story would have KOd him.

Called this. Gunnar's striking is far too limited. He throws the right over the top again and again. Had some success with the roundhouse, but stopped doing that after a while. Must have been injured, because Rick had no intentions of grabbing the leg.

The reason Machida's karate style works is because he has several different tools and he's rather unpredictable. He throws the cross, the knee, the roundhouse, the front kick, and you never know what's coming next. He can snipe, he can blitz, he can stay in the clinch. Granted, he doesn't do a million different things, but he has a handful of tools that lets him be unpredictable. Gunnar does not, he just has his timing. As soon as his opponents figure out his timing, they know what's coming too.

Damned shame.

He beat Gastelum? Did you even watch that fucking fight?

He isn't the only one who thought Story won. At MMA Decisions, Media scores favored Story to Gastelum 7 to 4 with 1 draw. I also remember a lot of people on here who thought Story won.

This will only help Gunnar. He's obviously had a bit of holes in his game, and hopefully this makes him and his camp address them.

I'm still a fan and I expect to see a lot of improvement from him.

Is Kelvin Gastelum a can now then?

The guy is the WW Cain Velasquez.

Kelvin can barely make 170, if he can even make it at all. imo Story beat Gastelum anyways. If Gastelum is really a mini WW Cain it goes to show how much better WW is than HW p4p, as there are so many better WW's than "mini Cain" Gastelum, meanwhile Cain is the best HW. Rory and Saffiedine would both annihilate Gunnar Boy Nelson. Gastelum and Story too for that matter.

Whoever says Story won has no business judging fights. Kelvin owned 13 minutes of that fight.

It's just hard to come back in a fight with his kind of fighting style. Was just a little too patient. That, and I think he'd be better off at 155.

The thing with size differences is that size and power disadvantages also affect how well you fight. Strikers and grapplers are not gonna be able to use their full arsenals effectively and use all the techniques they know when they are fighting other pro fighters with a size and power advantage. It makes a gigantic difference when you have two guys who fight for a living on this level. It is more than about simply being outmuscled.

I mean, if McGregor went up to LW and took on the likes of Melendez,Dos Anjos, Thomson or even Cerrone, I would have to highly doubt his striking would look as awesome as it does now. And he would have a WAY more difficult time outgrappling them as well. This makes it interesting to see how McGregor and Nelson both do at LW.

What happened tonight was very predictable given the way Gunnar looked in his fight vs Cummings.

Sorry brutalized gunnar with body shots and flush shots to the face and chin.

This is the kind of fight where the guy in the receiving end goes on a decline after.
Not sure if gunnar will be the same.
