What would be the optimal guard for someone with short legs? I have around 28 inch inseam and I really cant utilize my closed guard on most people. Thanks.

If you have short legs, then your guard game will probably be based more on sweeps than submissions.

The general prescription for short-legged jiu jitsu players is the half-guard, and that's what I rely on more than anything.

Sitting guard, butterfly guard and x-guard are also guards to try out and see if they fit.

The most important thing is that if you have short legs, it is even more important that your guard be an active and aggressive one.

Long-legged guys can close their guard, figure-four their legs and hang out all day if they want to. The rest of us have to keep working.
