15 years ago all time boxing great Roy Jones Jr beat up on 6'2" 225lb John Ruiz to become a heavyweight champion. Rather than unify against Lennox Lewis, he chose to move back down to LHW(175) and put up a mediocre performance against Antonio Tarver who would go on to knock him out in the rematch.

Just like how Jones lost his catlike reflexes, GSP will lose that explosive first step in his double leg and jab. Put up a mediocre performance against Nate and then get knocked out in either a rematch or a fight against Conor.

Going up a weight class to win the belt is impressive.

Going down a weight class to pick on smaller dudes is less so.

Well I may be crazy. But a WW champion winning the LHW title to capture a third belt doesn’t seem likely. Rumble hasn’t managed to win any of the three.

P.S.

I hope you’re not one of those advocating TJ drop to fight MM.

He deserves some easy money fights, let him have it.

I won't respect him until he goes trans gender and takes the wmma belt.

Will GeeSP really fight Nate? Where's the source?

edit- nvm, found them

And now RJJ is the meat between a Lampley-Kellerman sandwich.

I say this is pretty impressive. Fighting at 3 different weightclasses is what makes a true mixed martial artist.

I have always considered GSP as no 3 in the goat talks. What has worked against him imo is that he always used weightclass as an excuse to avoid the best fighters of his time. His comeback is "fixing" his legacy, and if he keeps going like this, he is moving up the ranks. If he can cut to 155 and win fights, it makes his run at 170 even more impressive.

Have zero interest in a St-Pierre-Diaz fight.

I think they should just do the St-Pierre-McGregor fight to get it out of the way (and save 2018's PPV buy total), and St-Pierre should see if he can still get the A. Silva fight, then retire.

The new bald right hand man of the 2 division champ does whatever the fook he wants.

GSP competing at LW would be pure comedy, fam.

On the upside? Skipping from 185 to 155 without so much as a hello to WW? Yeah, that would more or less confirm that GSP is unwilling to risk getting stiffened by Tyron Woodley.

Woodley is, of course, THE SINGLE MOST OBVIOUS FIGHT re: legacy. Thus far GSP's comeback tour has not overwhelmed, lol. He knocked off an old one-eyed Bisping--the weakest champ since Forrest. And then got the fuck out of Dodge (which is actually pretty commendable, because he could have squatted on the belt and bullshitted for the foreseeable future, a la Conor, which would have fucked all the guys trying to win that belt).

Catchweight Khabib could be fun if it's a 5 rounder. GSP probably likes his chances there. Diaz should be a non starter. Conor won't happen because Conor. Tony and Lee prob just don't present enough upside.

So the WW GOAT is going to challenge smaller men. MMA fighters need to be more like Boxers. Either stay in the same weight class or move up. Moving down to fight smaller fighters is weak. Every fight at LW is an easy win for the WW GOAT. Especially Nate Diaz. GSP beat Bigger Diaz, what the hell is Nate going to do to GSP?

I agree with this, gsp wants no part of Woodley. Either Woodley or khabib would improve his legacy the most and it’s obvious that’s not what this is about. If gsp defended against Whittaker I’d be impressed with him winning the title but he cherry picked a cherry picking champion then vacated.

Good luck to him, he's already put in the time and effort at the pinnacle of the game, he has earned the right to do anything he wants and get paid a mint for it
