Theoretical matchup- who would win if they were to fight now ?

If GSP would just do it I'd say he could win.

Would be a good fight.

Rockhold's not a great boxer, not a great chin and his head movement is poor sometimes. GSP can defintely chip away on the feet and outscore him. Kicks from Rockhold might not work if GSP can time them and put him on his back.

Grappling is even, both have great top games though Luke is a little more aggressive with ground strikes. Also has size/length, and probably cardio advantage, strength would be a toss up.

I think GSP would have had an easier time with Whittaker, Rockhold would have a considerable size advantage. I like GSP, but I think Luke is a bad matchup for him.

If Luke smothered St Pierres lead hand the way Hendricks did it would throw his whole game out of wack again.

His entire game is almost exclusively building off the jab or building off jab feints.

Smother the jab, and all of a sudden one of his biggest weapons isn't much to worry about. When you don't have to worry about that you can see all of his other shots alot better. That and he will throw his other strikes with less confidence because he doesn't have the jab to adequately build off of.

I see Luke sweeping him with the guillotine if he tries for a power double because of Luke's strength and GSP having to shoot from farther away because of Luke's size and kicks unless he draws the check hook which isn't hard to do to Luke.

If the fight lasted I would give it to Luke. George didn't seem to carry that extra weight well when fighting Bisping though to his fanboys it would be a moot point "because he ktfo Bisping!!"

Luke's chin and GSPs ability to reach it consistently is really the only deciding factor on if he wins or not.

Crazy to think what a horrible match up Luke is to everyone yet his chin just won't hold up when it matters most. Iron chinned Rockhold would be goat similar to Reem.

I thought so initially but the way he caught bisping who I thinks boxing is better than Rockholds made me wonder. Luke chin has also been proven suspect

I thought Luke would be champ again until he had to fight Yoel. Suspect chin vs explosive hitter don’t match up well. He’s very skillful but I don’t know what fight would best suit him next

I think GSP matches up against Romero better than he does against Rockhold.

Rockhold pretty decisively, and I'm far from a GSP hater. Gigantic MW vs WW, Rockhold would likely be able to finish him on the ground.

Yeah very skillfull and poses problems everywhere except in the pocket I suppose.

He wants to test run his body at 205 with an easier fight in Bisping and I see that as a smart decision to get back in the win column but the division itself I wouldn't recommend.

Mediocre fighters like Latifi, OSP, etc and then better fighters like Gus, Manuwa, and Volkan all give him problems and likely beat him unfortunately.

I say take the Bisping fight but stay at 185. He could still beat Yoel if he learned how to be more cautious but his strike awareness in the pocket and his ringcraft is more or less shit.
