Media GSP & Usman

George was the BEST at his weight class at the time. Today Hed have to probably go down to 145 to be a "bully weight". The guys today are bigger and skilled af.

Probably the win over Kos.

It’s hard to compare because they were so different though. Kos had been a rising star at 170 for a while and had some notable wins but had also proven himself to be somewhat inconsistent. On paper he was a nightmare for most in the division; a d1 champion with great physical skills who had big power in his right hand. In practice though he sometimes found himself in bad spots where he probably shouldn’t have, and showed a propensity to both get cocky and be gunshy at different times.

Gilbert was also a great prospect on paper but had only had 4 fights in the UFC at welterweight and despite being remembered fondly as an action guy his only finish at 170 in the UFC came against the corpse of the then 43 year old Demian Maia.

Overall though I have to give it to Kos. After their first fight Josh talked about how he just wasn’t ready for GSP to try and wrestle him and had been overconfident, vowing that the Canadian would see a different man across the octagon from him when they met for the second time. Despite GSPs anointment as the next 170 leviathan it was hard to ignore the challenges that wrestler as seasoned as Kos posed for a man who relied so heavily on his ground game.

@Hypetrainofthemonth

Care to elaborate?

Burns was 19-3, on a 6-fight win streak, with at least 2 top 10 wins - coming off a victory over the former champ (Woodley) when he fought Usman.

Koshcheck was 15-4, on a 3-fight win streak, no top 10 wins - coming off a victory over Paul Daley when he fought GSP for the title.

Burns was a more significant victory and Usman finished him.

GSP quit after he lost to Hendricks and refused to give him a rematch after a BS decision
GSP took a break after he almost lost to PED-enhanced Hendricks in order to give USADA some time to clean up the sport. Hendricks went from being UFC champion to fighting in BKFC in just a couple of years after USADA stepped in.

According to Fight Metric...

Burns scored 45 significant shots, and 55 total. Significant strike percentage was 41%

Koscheck landed 20 significant shots, and 44 total - in 2 fights, 8 rounds. Sig. strikes percentage was 9% and 11%

Usman and Burns have similar numbers against each other.

GSP was doing laps on Koscheck. Literally landing 100 more and throwing 100 more strikes than Koscheck.

Oh yeah what would GSP have ever done against JDM.... whatever would he have done to this 1 dimensional striker? GSP always had trouble with those guys. So evolved. So much evolution.....

Georges had better striking and wrestling than Usman.

The previous champ to JDM was Belal. Literally worse than GSP in every facet of MMA and not bigger than GSP.
