Media GSP represented all that was classy about the Mixed martial art sport.

Never moving up to challenge Anderson Silva was such a classy move

😆

Dude had 9 title defenses and beat like 5 or 6 guys who were top 10 p4p during his run. Meanwhile you have guys like Topuria, Pereira, Volk, Izzy, McGoober etc. Not doing half the work he did and trying to cash in on belts in other weights. Don't get me wrong, fighting Bisping...like the shittiest MW champ ever as some sort of opportunistic thing and then immediately retiring again instead of defending vs Whittaker or Romero was weak as fuck, but the only guy in the sport with a claim to GOAT over GSP is Jones, I struggle to see an objective argument otherwise too really.

I think he was the outlier.

Fighters are generally not 'all there' as men. Every once in a while you get a killer like GSP or Floyd Patterson (both were fantastic guys outside the ring), but it takes a fairly deranged individual to want to physically beat people as a career.

You know how it doesn't take a 'study' to conclude that a LOT of women in the adult film industry come from horrific backgrounds?

Same thing with fighters. Whether it's bullying or child abuse, fighters have a fire in the belly that makes them want to hurt other human beings for a paycheck. When you get assaulted enough times, you get acclimated to being 'hit' in a way that makes you less afraid of it than the general population.

Most people are scared of fighting because they don't know if it really hurts as bad as they think.

If your old man tossed you around the room in a fit of rage, you don't think twice about it, though.

GSP was on the smaller side for a 170 fighter, no reason he should expect to needlessly put himself at a great advantage.

Except he can’t even use that excuse because he did eventually fight at 185 lbs.. against the weakest MW champ of all time, then went running again 😆

Please look at this clip above, GSP incarnated what was good about this sport, being classy and acting as a gentleman. He was the stepping stone of this.

lots of fighters like him who are classy and nice too
i mean alot

mark munoz is one of the nicest mma fighters out there

It’s cage fighting and his corner openly cheated by greasing him mid fight. Can’t really trust those same guys behind closed doors imo.

Again not that it matters it’s fucking cage fighting

GSP is the nicest guy on the GOAT list for sure...

I still think, after two decades, him beating Hughes with that headkick, might be the best championship moment ever.

Kinda crazy if you think about it, but no matter how hard I try, there isn't a better moment.
Definitely the greatest to me. I hated Hughes so much, he was the man and I was a fan of GSP before he even made it to the ufc.

A true passing if the torch

My name is George. I was born and raised in Montreal. That moment does not come close to Holly and Rhonda

It was incredible because it was expected to be a competitive fight, but GSP just ran through him like he was a jabroni.

GSP represents a total anomaly, which really attributed to his massive popularity.

Built like a greek god, amazing at fighting... but open, vunerable, and ultimatley relatable.

Like a superhero brought to life.
