Has anyone tried the Greyskull program? And if so, how do you rate it?

It's good. You know that there is pretty much no difference between any of the basic programs that focus on the main lifts, right?

I am interested as well. Currently I am running SS but I find it hard to recover from squatting 3 times a week with muay thai in between. I don't want to quit with linear progress cause I think I still have some in me since my numbers are low.

I do. However, Greyskull interests me since it is based on Linear Progression as opposed to "slower" programs like 5/3/1 or Juggernaut.

It looks good to me, but i like rep progression schemes like 5/3/1 and juggernaut, and being able to set multiple types of PRs. My gf wants to start lifting heavy again at my work gym, so i'm probably going to try this out for her programming while she ramps up

Also the book is more entertainingly written than starting strength.

Greyskull is the best LP programme in my experience, mainly due to the AMRAP last sets.

GSLP is awesome. My only recommendation would be that you not do curls or chins before squatting/deadlifting. Make those the last lift of the day. You can also squat/dead first if you want. I prefer that to pressing first, but that's just because I want all my energy for squats.

I've done it...I like the setup where you only squat twice a week especially when the weights get heavy...One thing I'm not to fond of is the rep record set because to me it doesn't really make sense. Why not just amrap all of the sets if you are going to do that? The reason you use sets of 5 is for that specific adaptation that 5s give you.

I've been training for thirty years and linear programs have worked fior me so far. Nothing beats weight x reps / time (if you're not making the rest interval a constant) and with that you can progress in so many ways.

I'm a big fan of Greyskull LP. Layout is easy to follow and JP gives a lot of options depending on your goals.

I reckon he just wants to lift dressed as He-man really.

Don't be silly.

I intend to re-name the system Red Skull and do all my workouts wearing full Hydra uniform.

Thougts about this version? Chins instead of curls and no neck work.

A gym-friend of mine did Greyskull for a while and liked it. He did it as written (i.e. pressing before squats/deads).

I just realized the FAQ doesn't include Greyskull. What's a link to a good overview of it?

The base program is the following:

Week 1

Monday
Press - 2x5 then 1 set until technical failure
Squat - " "

Wednesday
Bench - " "
Deadlift - Work up to 1 set until technical failure

Friday
(Monday)

Week 2

Same but switch the Press and Bench

Notes:

+2.5lbs are added for upper body lifts and 5lbs for lower body lifts.

JP (GSLP creator) states that the AMRAP sets are what "drive progress." Also you can "layer in" additional assistance work. The 3 most common of these are curls, neck work and chin-ups or neutral-grip pull-downs.

I'm not sold on the AMRAP sets for a beginner where as sometimes going above 5 when the lifts get heavy becomes somewhat of a technical cluster-fuck. I'd be more apt to put a beginner on one of Wendler's 5/3/1 variants with 5's Pro for the main lifts then FSL @ 5x5. By doing this the trainee can get the main lifts in then do back-off sets at a lower intensity for technical proficiency.
