Greg Hardy has reached his ceiling

He’s better then Walt Harris was at Hardy’s age. I think his ceiling is similar. Half the guys in the rankings right now will be retired in 3-4 years and at that point I could see Hardy sliding into the top 10 with improvements.

He hasnt hit his ceiling yet. He even admits he needs to lose about 20 pounds of mass. If he is able to do so he can still improve. The question is though. Does he have the willpower and dedication to do so?

I'd love to see how Hardy does at a lean 250 - 260 lbs. Ngannou, for example, looks considerably faster now in the 250s than he did at 270 against Stipe. Hardy has quite a bit of fat to lose, to be honest.

I think the idea that just his current cardio ability is solely based on his asthma is just untrue. If he dropped 20 lbs. of body fat (completely possible for him) doing cardio, his lung capacity would improve greatly. Would his cardio be just the same if he was 20 lbs. heavier? Stupid point. However, his skills are far below the top 15!
I think people don’t fully understand what it takes to be able to go for 15 minutes. Football players need insane cardio too. Hell even Olympic sprinters use EPO because it takes tons of cardiovascular fitness to run sets of 100m sprints.

Hardy’s biggest problem is he just doesn’t have the overall game to be able to efficiently move. He doesn’t resist takedowns in any efficient way he just bridges as hard as he can too keep people from controlling his hips. He doesn’t have good footwork so he ends up stepping too much to throw a punch or throwing powerful punches from the upper body without a whole lot of balance. That will gas anyone even if they have top tier cardio.

He will be around for a little while because he has a name. He will win some and lose some. Eventually he will be on a Bellator card and there isnt any shame in that

He got ahead himself with that pro boxing talk, kinda like Rousey. He's basically another Kimbo Slice. Tough guy and hard hitter but nowhere near elite. Probably will get cut after a few more fights. Can't keep feeding him cans.

and the becoming the best HW combat athlete ever.

I agree about his ceiling. I don't agree that he has actual medical asthma. Hardy is indeed an A level athlete, and in his case it means he is built to sprint for 15 seconds and then rest and recover for multiple minutes. The actual amount of play time in an average NFL game is only 11 minutes, spread out over 3 plus hours. In addition he spent years training his "A level" body to be good at certain skills, most of which don't translate to MMA or at best have minimal application. Now he has to work on a much more diverse set of movements, and that takes time to get good because your body has to adapt.

Ultimately I don't see Hardy being anywhere close to a top guy in any combat sport. He can stomp some guys in the sub-top 10/15, but I don't see him rising above that.

Yes, NFL players, even the fat ones, are sprinters. MMA is not a sprint.

I pretty much agree. Unfortunately for Hardy, he is at that stage where his skillset improvement is going to drastically slow, and there is not a whole lot he can do about it. The greatest improvements, technique-wise are gained in the first one to two years and then it starts slowing down after that. I think Hardy has been training for about 4 years. I'm not saying that he can't improve anymore he most certainly can but it's not going to be by Leaps and Bounds and he's certainly not going to ever be an elite Grappler or an elite Striker.

Hardy is certainly athletic but I have to lol at the idiots who think nfl players are some sort of uber elite athletes, when most of them would struggle to do a full lap around a track. Stamina is a part of athletic ability, how the hell can you be considered world-class when you can't even run a full lap?

“Elite athlete” and he has absolutely no cardio and as soon as the fight hit the ground and he got hit he turtled. How did he make the NFL? I doubt he can run a 40 without passing out or needing his inhaler.
Steroids

I’ve never cared for any fighter less than I care for Greg Hardy. Hope he loses two more and gets cut by the ufc and spend the next decade losing freak fights like Bob Sapp.

I see Greg having 1-2 more fights in UFC and then going to BKFC.

Say it with me it won't hurt your soul. GREG HARDY PUTS ON ENTERTAINING FIGHTS WIN OR LOSE AND IS VERY GOOD CARD FILLER.
Greg Hardy is the most overpriced fighter on the roster and most of his fights were boring AF.

If you find his fights which almost typically ended in ko of himself or someone else boring thats kind of your opinion and I dont really care for it as I disagree so if thats what you are looking for an argument on his fights being exciting then uhhh how about no. In regards to the most overpriced fighter thats where I would have to inform you that you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Greg Hardy was paid high due to his namesake of being a somewhat famous former NFL brute with a troubled past transitioning to mma. He met every last obligation of that in spades. How the fuck could he be the most overpriced when the UFC knew exactly what they were getting, he never claimed to be great, nor did the UFC, and he has met all obligations and his fights are consistently discussed and analyzed around the world? You simply dont know what you are talking about. To this day Hardy can still co main on a UFC card after close to 10 fights. Yet in your head he is most overpriced when the UFC has paid fortunes to the CM Punks of the world. You sound crazy.

It's a terrible division and he's fun to watch for 1 round, I don't mind Hardy sticking around.

Crowder: NC
Sosoli, Volkov, De Castro: Decision
Smoliakov, Adams: can crushing,
Tybura: Hardy quit

So of 7 UFC fights he had 2 finishes. He's boring, not an opinion.

And a 180k purse for an unranked HW who couldn't beat anyone significant is overpriced. Again, not an opinion.

I agree with you that he is overpriced considering his track record but UFC must analyze metrics when deciding how much today fighters.

He brings eyes so I guess that's where the valuation comes from. However, people will be tuning in less and less when losses begin to mount. If they wanna get rid of Hardy theyll give him fringe 15 guys, if not they'll give him cans. But even the cans have a solid chance at beating him if they can atleast grapple.

Once he goes on a skid he'll lose alot of viewership and his price tag will be much overpriced. They'll renegotiate or cut him. He wont be getting that much for much longer imo

Idk him and Blaydes could be fun. Or incredibly boring. It is heavyweight after all.

He has plenty of ways he can improve, for example fundamental defensive BJJ, as shown in his last fight.

His striking can get better.

He may not get there, but he definitely hasn’t “hit his ceiling.”

I have never seen s Hardy fight I didnt enjoy whether he was doing something stupid like using an inhaler or gassing and making a mockery of himself. I also find his moments he does well entertaining. So you sitting here trying to argue with someone over the entertainment value of one of the most talked about fighters on the roster is a convo you can have with someone who would buy your shtick. Greg Hardy has put put asses in seats and been highly discussed whether win or lose. If you can't understand that in itself is why the fuck he gets paid what he does again thats your dumb ass. No disrespect but you are one of those guys trying to argue against a man's popularity. Im a realistic person. Reality here. Your opinion on Hardy's popularity mean a squirrel poot. Like less than that. Yeah losing hurts his allure but nobody thought he was unbeatable so thats silly. Are you like 12 mad because Hardy is famous and brings entertainment value by his namesake? Then deal with it. Just not with me
