BJJ Grappling in a street fight a good idea?

Grappling wouldn't be my first choice in a street fight. And not just because I'm a no-stripe white belt who still struggles with basic techniques. I avoid violence like the plague, but if I'm forced into a situation where I have no option but to fight, I want to end it as fast as possible. And for me, that means striking.

I definitely the best option is doing what you're best at as effectively as you can. If someone tries to hurt me and I try to strike with them, I would say I deserve to get smacked around. That's my take. End of the day, do what you're most effective at...

I'm trying to figure out how anyone would know if their would be opponent has any grappling or striking skills before the fight. Add to that how do you know if they have any weapons or cohorts with them.

The truth? I have been in a bunch of brawls and straight fights. I know how to fight and I'm bigger then average, I'm on the small side out of my friends. I stopped fighting when I bought my first house. Also I was ratted on as a teenager and buying my way out of trouble hurt at 18. Walk away if you have anything you are afraid to lose. Up to and including your life and freedom

Don't street fight
It's avoidable for 99%

Better with some striking if it's real self defence. Hit the dude and get put of dodge

Martial arts make you a better fighter, but street fighting is not playground fighting and can be very unpredictable. Martial arts can also be as dangerous as being untrained. Just because you win the local golden gloves or ADCC, doesn't mean you can beat 2 thugs who attack you with weapons. It may give you false confidence

So just don't fucking fight unless necessary and try to stay on your fight if grappling

This, people don't seem to realize that "winning" in a street fight isn't the same as "winning" on the mat.

Scratches, eye pokes, bites, spitting etc may not win a fight for the untrained, but can you really say "i won" after you realized you could had walked away from a fight instead of having to deal with a nasty ass bite that pretty much always get infected?

Given that ill always try to avoid a fight

I still think that being solid in a clinch is the most important aspect in self defense. You control where the fight is at, and you don't get taken down.
The last thing you want to be in a fight is taken down if there are multiple people.

You're not getting hurt in a clinch one on one.

Of everything I've ever trained. The Judo stuff is what saved my ass.

Exactly this
People fight how they are trained
The biting and eye poking will always come from someone desperate

What about a hidden knife?
Set of keys?
Broken bottle?

Fighting is fucking stupid outside of sports and if unavoidable to protect your self or someone else

Too many meatheads sith a rope around there waist or some time boxing have egos and wouldn't walk away if challenged by some thug.

If some random said they can beat me in a fight, I'd just agree and walk away, even if you know it isn't true

Till some extent it is possible to read in moment when he thinks that escalation is unavoidable.

One from warning signs is if he lower his height a bit.... like maybe lower... this is in order to get reserve to use movement.
Another thing is if he watches like on object...it is difficult to describe unless taste in real life.

Because if he is with exp he will " read " your stance, watch balance and angles in your joints, hips etc angles etc...not only just in face.

If he does have knife, there are certain signs to taste, does he know stuff, is attempting to use as deterrent or threat OR....

There ofc are things why I suggest to avoid if possible.
I don't talk about just unlicensed by some commision fights but about daTech Street.

I might " taste " how dangerous might be opponent pretty well. While I can't predict who will jump in.... and ofc they might use everything they does have...from any items till firearms...

The old "ocular pat down"? Your right you usually can tell a fighter from a shit talker. A real fighter usually doesn't run their mouth much. There are things I usually look for in a truly threatening opponent. I'm known to have knives on me, I've never used a weapon in a fight. I do have defensive knife wound scars.
And I got away with fighting years ago. When it was over there was no evidence. Now no one breaks the fight up, they just record and post. You run a good chance of being identified after

In clinch is possible to hurt till ICU ...

While ofc clinch is beauty...and fight might start in very close distance.
Close fight distance means that standup grappling skills are very important. Even if you are striker. Cos might be reasons to do SD by law will be when you will have very close distance.

Relly experienced doesn't talk or don't talk much or anything that might be used against him in court. Lesser is better for him, espcially cos sound recording options are widely awailable btw...video too

Criminals usually are working in groups according previously scheduled gameplan.

This might be from accuse you in some crime etc or maybe stage some other guys fight you will watch while others will take your belongings or clean pockets when you are busy with other stuff. Or might ask road and don't do anything illegal, while all they need is to get your hands in certain position in order to make your pockets easier accessible for their partner/ partners.

Criminals might also stage conflict like some guy vs you just in order to get their partners easier to steal your belongings while you are busy.
Or engage in fight in order that their parner will be able easier to debilitate you from behind when you are busy with one guy.

Pinnacle is to feed terpila ( victim ), if they are confident that there isn't audio recording but awailable video recording. Then flowchart more is to tell threats etc, while move like nothing in pirctures looks aggressive. Then they are excepting that you will hit supposed victim...he will get some damages and will insist that he had told something innocent ...asked road, had small discussion about something, asked lighter or location.
After get hit prepared liars tales are told, not rare cases confirmed by his partners AND then demands to compensate moral etc harm.. .

Some kind like " traffic accidents " why videoregistrators are very common. Hit brakes a bit, get hit your car from behind not too hard ofc, then lying for police that you didn't had used safe distance and claim insurance etc compensations. This stuff is more rare now cos damn a lot ofc CCTV cameras and video registrators etc. Years 10-25 ago was more common stuff. Low damages, a lot of crying and faked psychosis etc...to get you pay on top etc...
