On September 21st, our Gracie Jiu-Jitsu brother, Brendan Schaub, faced off against friend-turned-foe Matt Mitrione at UFC 165. Rener was on hand to corner Brendan, and after the spectacular submission finish, it was a given that there needed to be a Gracie Breakdown. This would be the first time that the Gracie Breakdown was shot WITH the actual fighter who used the submission! Watch it, learn it, and most importantly, share it so we can get some jiu-jitsu haters off the couch and on to their hotel beds!!! :)

If you haven't seen it yet, check out Rener's post-fight UFC on Fox interview with Ariel Helwani. It is without question, the most educational/dangerous/epic interview of Ariel's career. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAu1rC...

Schaub, in the above video, says he competed in Metamoris. Perhaps his definition of compete and mine is different.

That aside Schaub looked BEAST on Saturday.

Schaub looked good, that being said he made a mockery of jiu jitsu at metamoris and the fact the Gracie's support him is laughable

Ah Rener. You shady little word smith.

Question for the Gracie Torrance (you know who you are. ;) ) shills out there.

Did Kalib Starbes "shut down" Nate Quarry? By Rener's logic he did. Apparently it is now okay to volunteer for a grappling tournament that people pay to see, refuse to engage for 20 minutes, get paid, and declare yourself a winner over a world champ by not grappling in a grappling tournament.

Brendan Schaub is a nut case. I get it now. Rener however constantly chooses phrases to incite shit and than throws his hands up in fake confusion when people call him out on it.

"I don't know why they get so upset when I say their Jiu Jitsu isn't pure. They're just fanatical about Jiu Jitsu I guess. It's all good. One love doe. So proud that my great grandfather invented leverage so these haters could practice this beautiful art. "

His passive aggressive bullshit won't work forever.

Did mitrione even know how to defend the choke? It looked like he didn't even attempt to.

I definitely was impressed with his performance. Luckily for me, the only thing I've seen from his Metamoris fight was that sped up gif.

I can't wait for Seafood Freddy's video repy,

"See dem ***s on a bed, shit is gay dude"

I won't waste my time or give them the fraction of a cent in adsense money by watching.

give it a rest fool, stop being so bitter

He's right. This shit is a joke.

+1

Why no breakdown of Schlub's performance at Metamoris? Afraid the ghost of Helio would appear and smack the shit out of all who were involved (sans Cyborg) in that abortion of a match?

i think this is the point where ive had it with rener and ryron. i watched two minutes of that and wanted to hurl my boot at the screen

Well at Metamoris, I can see both sides. Schaub wanted to engage on the feet, in a clinch or try for a takedown. Cyborg wanted to engage on the ground. Cyborg was the higher ranked grappler; in my Opinion, he should have gone after Schaub and pulled him into his world. And then submitted him.

As to the Mitrione fight - it was a nice sub that Schaub pulled on him. Time to feed him to Werdum.

What match did you watch? Anytime Cyborg tried to clinch Schaub would shove him off and run away.

I'm not sure schaub shot for a takedown at all during that match, despite being all but invited to do so. He also didn't engage in a clinch. Almost all of Schaub's actions were pushing Cyborg away and circling away to keep cyborg from having the distance to shoot with a chance at making it.

Did you even watch it?

Kind of ridiculous how much people hate on the gracies.

Shaubs match at metamoris wasn't my favorite I ever saw. But it takes two to make a boring match. Instead of expecting Shaub to play his game, fall into the blender of his tornado guard and get limbs ripped off, Cyborg could have gotten up and fought for a takedown. Shaub only gets half the blame from my perspective.

He's a very legit brown belt, and he had the best motives for agreeing to a match he knew he couldn't really win. Execution wasn't great, but you'd all be willing to cut him a lot more slack if he wasn't associated with GJJ in Torrence is my guess. Said assocation seems to inspire some kind of rabid pathological hatred in some.
