Google Stadia ***Update: Google shutting down the service***

i don't think it's so much that a company gives an option and we yell "you suck!" ... as much as it's a company with google's rep (we're all on google+, right?) making grandiose claims and doing so seemingly with either no first-hand knowledge of 'gaming issues' (ie: latency, desync, rubber-banding) or with arrogant spin regarding such. but... i mean, google fiber was a huge hit and covers the nation, so we should all have no problem.

i can't tell which part of stadia was a plan for a long con cash-grab (ie: subscription), which was people legitimately believing it's the future of gaming and feasible now, which is r&d/data collection, and etc.

It is feasible now, not for everyone of course. A buddy of mine has it with same internet as I do and he has no issues with it. If people have crappy internet then they obviously shouldn't expect it to work. Stadia base is coming out with no subscription fee. But you're right they're a complete failure as a company and have no products that people use... except YouTube, Chrome, Chromebooks, Android, Maps, Gmail, smart home systems etc etc etc. Again I don't understand what people with shitty internet connections are whining about. If it's not for you then it's not for you. Don't buy it. I like to have options so everyone can find a system that they prefer to game on, and more competition creates better products.

Am I wrong here? Does Stadia seem like a project dreamed up by a bunch of tech junkies, who really have no idea about how the gaming industry works, or is it just me?

Yes you are somewhat wrong. Its console gaming functionality on a subscription based credit card payment plan. Where the user isnt forced into a one large lump sum payment and can suspend that payment plan(subscription) at anytime.

Targeted audience by Google was towards anyone who gamed. However the true target audience are those who dont own a console, have a high speed internet connection and wish to only console game for limited months in the year.

nice reductio ad absurdum. it would have worked... if i argued that google has no products. now if i argued that google has a track record of grandiose vaporware and abandonware...

and it doesn't really "work" for anyone*. the question is if people are ok with the inherent problems or not. many casuals/etc will be ok with the latency in its many forms (input lag, audio being out of sync, higher ping than one would like, desync, etc) and many will find it awful. regardless, google's claims are clearly exaggerated/bullshit (i mean, this was obvious. their claims were just a wee bit over the top)

*i mean, i guess unless someone's playing locally, like at google.

lolz @ pretending only those "with shitty internet connections are whining." my internet's pretty golden. i still won't pay for stadia.

I don't think google expected it to be a hit, the technology isn't quite ready yet.

It was just a market test to see what they need to do differently for version 2. The scary thing about this technology is that once it works, consoles will be obsolete overnight.

Did they ever figure out how to stop the Ultra from overheating?

Every major company has a shit ton of products that never panned out and were killed. A friend of mine has it that lives in the same city as I do with the same internet plan. He's owned every Xbox since the original one and says he hasn't had any issues with stadia. So what's the problem here? It works for him and it'll most likely work for me. I don't need you to spend money on it. I'm not one of those people who needs other people to validate my opinions for me and shit on things without any personal experience on them.
I hope you're happy gaming with whatever system you use. If buying Stadia next Christmas means that I don't have to spend 600 dollars on hardware + subscription (that I don't have the time to use most of the time) and I can play the games that I want then why would it be a bad choice for me?

the new consoles appear to be practically just gaming PCs with proprietary OS and some proprietary hardware. they could be obsoleting themselves... except for branding and etc. as long as console players don't realize how similar it's getting to PC, they'll likely stay with consoles.

but clients running locally will always have advantages over streaming the data.

is this strawman simulator?

so you close with another fallacy? you do realize that literally no one has to spend $600 on anything, right? something, something, validate opinions, something.

The scary thing about this technology is that once it works, consoles will be obsolete overnight.

They cant overcome the speed of light. Even at low latency Stadia has 25-50% increased input lag over that of a local console. Something consoles this decade will inadvertently reduce with higher refresh rate televisions becoming standardized.

Future of the technology is a program making the user(or a different idle users) home console/Pc the game streaming server.

It's like I was rebutting your opinion or something. Clearly if it works some without any issues, it works for some without any issues. Then you can't say it doesn't really work for anyone.

I don't think you comprehend what a strawman is. That was an honest opinion of your personality and most like an accurate one.

So next gen consoles aren't going to cost close to 600, what about a good gaming PC?

*sigh*

maybe you should try READING that which you think you're rebutting. you're friend 'being ok with it' =/= working as advertised.

...you just thought it was a rebuttal, which makes it strawman and not just opinion.

weird, i didn't know we were forced to buy new gaming PCs this upcoming christmas.

No issues is not same as being "ok with it" it means that for him it is indeed working as advertised. So ya, it was a rebuttal. I'm sorry, maybe "READING" isn't your strong suit. Look at that ma! All caps! I got him now! Please agree with me and buy the same stuff I do! Otherwise I don't know if I can cope in this world!!!

In all seriousness you've clearly dug yourself a nice little trench and are refusing to move even though the country has already been taken over so I'll leave you be since you're a waste of time.

But don't worry! If I run into someone looking to get in to gaming and wants to buy a console or a PC that isn't obsolete in two years for a couple of hundred, I know my man robmafia will be able to hook him up!

fact: it's actually not.

like i said, your friend may be happy with its shortcomings, but the shortcomings are there.

...so incessant strawman, then? please cite ANYTHING i said to buy.

In all seriousness you've clearly dug yourself a nice little trench and are refusing to move even though the country has already been taken over

<Huh2>

so I'll leave you be since you're a waste of time.

weird, since... instead of doing that, you typed words and then selected "post reply." you know, the opposite of your claim.

Fucking have to explain this a million times. I don't have stadia but I'm thinking about getting it next holiday season when next gen consoles come along. You can pay a fee and then you get some games for free and you get 4k. You can opt out from paying a fee and you get 1080p and no free games. I'm a dad with work and hobbies and shit to do. I have time to play games every once in a while but not very often. Next Christmas I'm faced with a choice, buy a next gen console for 600 + subscription for ps+ or Xbox gold and have it collect dust most of the time. Or stadia for a 100+ bucks and have Google handle the back end stuff. Which one do you think I'll go for? I boggles my mind when companies offer more choices and people go "You suck!" If it's not for you, then don't buy it. Simple.

Limited game selection, not actually 4k, overpriced games, very few people to play with online. Sounds great.

The biggest deal breaker though is that this is Google we are talking about. You would have to be a fool to have confidence they will continue to support this product, given their track history. If they pull the plug on this the money you spent will have been wasted.

I see this being popular in like 10-20 years when everyone has high speed Internet. So many people can’t run this shit.

also all the videos I’ve seen the input lag is horrendous.

From what I understand Final Fantasy XV runs at 30FPS @1080p. That's pretty abysmal, and while I get there will always be things to iron out this seems more like a critical flaw in their design because I don't think anything is actually running in 4k.

The principle is sound but the execution has been very underwhelming.

Also the pricing model is shit, if I understand correctly. Pay full price for the games, and pay a subscription fee?

Look at this nonsense. Premiere edition is $129.99 for three months. $129.99 / 3 = $43.33 per month. That means a year of Stadia Premiere is $520.00.

Fuck that and fuck them.

Premiere edition is 129, with it you get a controller and a Chromecast ultra and a stadia pro subscription for free for three months. After that if you want to keep stadia pro it's 12 bucks or something a month, if not you can opt out and lose your "benefits", like if you opt out of Xbox gold or ps+.

Premiere is just the name of the package that you initially get that includes those three things. It's not the name of the subscription. The subscription is called Pro.

the internet speed isn't even the big factor, it's the proximity to/amount of hops to/from the server.

1080p with a slow rate is the future of gaming!

I'm glad the whole thing is DOA, means less money for google, they could do with less money.
