Google Stadia ***Update: Google shutting down the service***

Latency will kill this. Internet speeds simply aren't there yet in order for this to be a viable means of "serious" gaming for the average person. Imaging playing a fast-paced shooter in which your aiming/shooting is delayed, or even a racing game in which you must turn AHEAD of time due to the latency. Anyone who ever tried OnLive knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Bandwidth caps from companies like Comcast will also present enormous problems.

Bottom line: This is a great idea, but too far ahead of its time just like OnLive. We just don't have the infrastructure to properly support it.

After testing all the major game streaming services (Shadow Tech, Steam, Moonlight, OnLive, Nvidia Geforce Now, Playstation Now, etc.) on various different platforms (gaming laptop, gaming desktop, tablet, and smart phone) I've come to the conclusion that the streaming gaming platform is only for specific Users.

If you game on a 120hz+ display with 5msrt or less, this isn't for you. You will feel like you're playing in mud.
If you're a competitive FPS gamer, this isn't for you.

For people that like to couch game, play single player stuff, or sports games, AND have a 100mbps+ this will do amazing things.

HOWEVER, if you've never gamed on a 144hz display or don't know what MSRT means, this might be for you.
These streaming platforms provide high-end PC gaming for a low entry cost. The quality of the stream and responsiveness is amazing, but even with a 500mpbs connection it will feel like 150ms-200ms input lag

Anyone sensitive to response time will feel the delay. There's just no getting around input lag no matter how fast your internet is.

To be clear I believe this is the future of gaming. Sony already has psnow (which sucks tbh) and Microsoft will be showing their own streaming technology at the upcoming e3. I think it will be a decade before consoles are mostly irrelevant.
Wrong, the infrastructure for broadband is goddamn old and terrible. Its way to early for this to be viable for hardcore gaming, let alone MP.

Something else... just imagine trying to play a fighting game like Mortal Kombat 11 with even the slightest bit of input lag.

I'd love to see them prove me oh-so-wrong, but I just can't see it happening.

yeaaaaaaah, nooooooooooooooo.

for RPGs/turn-based, 'visual novel' games or whatever, sure.

for anything that's time sensitive - including single player, it's going to be inherently poor at best unless one is in close proximity to a server. and even then it still would be passable/meh at best. ok for casuals (ie: people who play angry birds or whatever on their phones/tablets), but probably cancer for anyone else.

edit: lolz @ sports games with latency.

This is the death knell for consoles.

Consoles are a horribly inefficient way of delivering computing power. Only about 4% usage when you consider the fact that, on average, a console is used for gaming about one hour a day.

Cloud computing will surely be at least 40% efficient, making it 10 times cheaper. So you'll get for $50 what you're paying $500 for now.

Not every game type will work, or course... but gaming has always been limited by hardware. Players will adapt. Consoles limit games in ways that cloud services won't, so there's a trade off.

It's death knell, big guy.

Yeah.. not for me. Very impressive though, if it works.
But I am very curious about the games they will offer.

lolz. for 20 years, i keep hearing about how consoles are dead and then PCs are dead and then consoles are dead and then it's PCs that are dead...

consoles will be around because they're easy money and simple/they work.

gaming PCs will be around because they'll always be the cutting edge.

streaming games might be a new way to play, but it'll hardly replace either.

Man the console has being dying for over a decade, yet there are more consoles still to be released. Im confused.

They stream it to you. The game runs on their data centers, you send your input and receive picture.

This has been tried before.

Even with flawless internet speeds there were multiple problems, including horrible latency issues.

Unless some trusted reviews of the final product say all the issues are miraculously fixed, I'm going to have to pass.

Though, I do really like the controller. It looks like a PS4 and XBoxOne controllers had a baby. If I could use it to play on a PC, wirelessly, I may pick it up.

True, but consider that just about everything that ever succeeded had been "tried before."

If this doesn't happen now, it will eventually. The only things in the way are "temporary problems." So, even if google fails in this attempt, it will succeed soon after.

Similar to the VR craze. Technology(networking infrastructure here) isnt yet in place.

Yep, and you can still buy a car that you have to drive yourself that runs on gas... things don't change overnight.

But this will be the end... my guess is that we'll get another Xbox console, but Sony and Nintendo may bow out and instead offer streaming services with their own custom input devices.

We shall see.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm open to the possibility of being surprised.

Great idea, but bandwidth caps by the current cable/internet companies will keep this from mushrooming.

...you mean like psnow, that was already mentioned and mocked?
