i think 10-8 rounds could be handed out more often than they are. there was a clear 10-8 during the last invicta card (rd 1 of evinger/schneider title fight), but there are lots more. big john said on his podcast that rd3 of silva/bisping should have been a 10-8 (resulting in a draw). what are some other prime examples of 10-8's, either that were scored as such, or obviously should have been and werent?

Meisha Tate vs. Holly Holm Round 2.

Got her down and controlled her for almost an entire round and smacked her around pretty good in the process.

Just watch Maia/Nelson. Gunni's defense kept it from being a 10-7 but he was dominated.

For people that think 10-8 requires striking or being nearly finished, just watch that.

lombard vs magny couldve been scored a 10-8 first round, and definitely shouldve been scored a 10-8 second round.

I think the first couple examples that were given should be 10-7s, the first 3 rounds of shogun/hendo could all easily be 10-8s and the final round should have been a 10-7

Michael Chiesa vs Massaranduba. Dude mounted him at the beginning and stayed there... the whole fight...

Frankie vs Maynard 2 Rd 1

That was one of only two rounds I've ever seen that I would score a 10-7.

Totally disagree with BIg McLargeHuge that the first 3 rounds of Shogun Hendo should have been 10-8 and the final a 10-7.

A 10-8 round, IMO, is a round where the opponent is basically a human punching bag that offers little to no offense of their own (basically round 5 of Shogun Hendo).

In rounds 1 to 3, Shogun had way too much offense for any of them to go 10-8, including dropping Hendo.

Weidman vs Rockhold round 2

Could have even been a 10-7

BJ vs Fitch round 3?

Fitch vs Erik Silva round 3 (possibly the fight that took Erik Silva's soul as we knew it)

I'd probably go with Maia v Nelson. Nelson had some minor success in position transitions in Rd 1 but it went from bad to worse very quickly. Each round got at least a 10-8 count from Sherdog's scoring. I think the 3rd was about as good an example as you will see.

rnd 1 gunnar tumenov. rnd 1 josh emmett vs jon tuck

Horiguchi knocked Seery down 2 times and also took him down twice in one round.

Shogun vs Hendo R5

I agree that MMA needs to make better use of the 10 point must system. There are 10 points available, make use of them. At least in boxing if there's a knockdown, that's a clear 10-8 round. Two knockdowns, 10-7. Has there ever been an MMA fight in a major promotion with a 10-7 round scored? It's ridiculous that a very close round can be scored 10-9 and then a clearly won round also be scored 10-9. It's not a fiar representation of the fight. The fight has to be on the verge of being stopped for a 10-8 to be scored. With fewer rounds than boxing, it's more important to make better use of the full range of points available but boxing actually does a better job of it than MMA.

The majority of rounds with a clear winner should be. 10-9's should be saved for rounds with a clear winner, but just barely.

rnd 1 gunnar tumenov. rnd 1 josh emmett vs jon tuck
I disagree wih boh, but especially the first example. Tumenov was lighting him up early and late in the round once he regained his feet. Nelson had control and some good damage, too.
